We had the good fortune of connecting with Steve Harris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Steve, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Krisis Flood Bags provides a positive social impact to all of society. Families, businesses, the general public, institutions, government and emergency disaster agencies can now deploy these bags in their homes and businesses to help mitigate the impact and get back on your feet in a reduced time frame. Displacement from one’s homes, loss of property contents and business assets and livelihoods and disruption to business and social affairs can cause continuing stress and ongoing costs to those who must navigate living and working in flood zones.
The costs associated with floods in the US vary widely depending on the severity, duration, and location of the flood events. According to the National Oceanic and Administration (NOAA) floods are the most common natural disaster in the US, and they cause billions of dollars in damages and economic losses each year.
In the past decade, the US has experienced several major flood events, including Hurricane Harvey in 2017, which caused an estimated $125 billion in damages, and the Midwest floods in 2019, which caused an estimated $6.2 billion in damages. More recently Hurricane Ian in 2022 resulted in over $112 billion in damage.
In addition to property damage and loss, floods can also have significant impacts on public infrasture such as roads, bridges, and utilities as well as agricultural production, transportation, and economic activities. The costs of flood prevention and mitigation efforts, such as building levees dams, can also be significant.
Overall this cost associated with floods in the US is substantial, and it highlights the importance of Krisis Flood Bags as the right solution to ensure Better Preparedness, Mitigation, and Resilience tools to help reduce the impacts of flood events on communities and the economy.
This is why Krisis Flood Bag is so passionate about delivering a solution to all those who must deal with flood disasters worldwide.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I first started thinking about creating a watertight bag about five years ago as l was emotionally moved by a news story on TV showing the financial and emotional impact a family went through after their home got flooded, leaving all their home contents totally ruined and their house in need of serious rebuilding. A light bulb went off –why is there, not a protective bag that people could put all of their home and business contents into to keep dry from flooding waters inside the home? Pack it up, zip it up, and leave it until the water resided. The savings for the public, Insurancers, and Government Disaster Mitigation Agencies would be huge.
And, so the five-year journey began with research and development of the stages of Krisis Flood Bags and now our international watertight certification. This was far from easy with many challenges and hurdles and with many lessons learned.
It can be said that our mistakes can be our biggest teachers. For example, the story that comes to mind immediately is that we had a fully aluminum trailer made up to hold Krisis Flood Bags and travel to many Australian States that have extreme flood-prone areas. The trailer was orange in color like our bags and looked similar to the Super Size Krisis Flood Bag, our largest bag. I took the trailer to get it sign written and get a zipper attached to the trailer, and when l went to pick it up, l got distracted by someone wanting to take photos. After talking, l jumped into my vehicle and drove off without properly attaching the trailer. When l was just turning out of the driveway, the trailer popped off the bull bar and l pulled to the left, it started slowly moving down the road on its own!
Jumping out, I managed to stop it before any damage was done. This was the start of the Eight (8) week journey, putting Krisis Flood Bags into homes, which nearly became a disaster before we began. The lesson here is to measure twice and cut once. Getting distracted almost cost me an accident, so stopping to think if everything is in check before proceeding can save a lot of time and money down the road.
Krisis Flood Bags is making a positive & significant contribution to social change.
We are living in biblical times. Flooding disasters are greater and stronger and are costing many lives and heartaches for millions of families per year.
The Krisis Flood Bags Preparedness & Mitigation tool will save millions of home and business contents from water damage from floods that are now a regular event. The cost to homes and businesses owners, and renters is significant not to mention the cost to insurers payouts increasing, driving up premiums. In addition the government is having to remove the water-damaged home and business contents which increases landfills and rubbish locations. This can be prevented and minimized for the benefit of all with implementing the deployment of Krisis flood bags to all homes in flood zones.
