We had the good fortune of connecting with Storm Riis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Storm, what do you attribute your success to?
Strategic networking. Having access to specific people who had success within this space. Has cut the learning curve and extended my reach further in a short period of time. Next I would say really is experiences.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently I host basketball camps/tournaments of all levels middle-high girls and boys on a National level. I also run a basketball recruiting service that emphasizes getting kids seen by the right people and connected with them. That venture has led me to start another national business. Connection University. An idea that has come to life due to understanding and experiencing the power of strategic networking. I am partnered with an old friend Brian Stephens. His fearless dreams hold me accountable to be the best I can be. Connect U will host national networking events where we educate all demographics and ages on how to network to the right people and the importance of networking. I am most proud about where I’m at in my businesses because i am able to create opportunities for the next generation. Even opportunities where those are slim to none. I am where I am at today because of vision, fearless consistent action, experiences to learn, support and opportunities to connect. Things have happened fast being only doing this for 10 months. I’m thankful for just jumping in the water. Swimming . I understood it was either sink or swim. But it’s easier when you see the end goal. The “island” to swim too. I want the world to know it’s always been bigger than basketball. Basketball is a vehicle. Basketball is also a platform that if used right can get you opportunities not just for basketball. Also if I can start something or take steps forward so can you. I am not supposed to be doing what I’m doing. We will bridge the gap. Jump in the water today!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Somewhere extravagant. Show big, see big. I would probably say somewhere like Jamaica or Barbados. Really to just relax and take in everything. Eventually once I am where I want to be in life with my business’s I want to take a trip with the people who have supported me from the start. Get drunk. Beautiful sunsets. Lots of laughter. Really just experience life the way we want to. My good friend Luke definitely have had some crazy/funny experiences. Can’t really go into depth about those experiences. Another destination that I feel I could always have a good time is Orlando, Fl. My wife Jessica and I always take trips there. I believe it is our happy place. I also believe it has helped us in many ways even in our marriage.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So a major contribution to the success of where I am at in life right now would have to be the support from my wife Jessica and my family. It’s easier to shoot for the moon when you know you have your family that will be there to catch you even if you fall. My mom Nina she has shown me how selfless a human can be. I want to also highlight everybody who has gave me an opportunity. An opportunity to connect. An opportunity to learn. An opportunity to fail. I will always be grateful for opportunity.
