We had the good fortune of connecting with Sue Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sue, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Drew thought it would be fun to work together doing something fun that we both enjoy and are very passionate about. Both he and one of the former founding members of the band slowly lured me into joining the band. I used to suffer from severe stage fright and even though I am a huge lover of everything music, I never performed in a cover band. It all started with after work jams with Drew to learning how to play the keyboard/piano & horn parts on the long list of super hit covers in our repertoire.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our band/business started as a rebirth of the 2002 version of Exit Left. Drew along with one of the other founding members of the 2002 Exit Left wanted to bring it back to life in 2016. Fast forward seven years and a few line up and repertoire changes, and we are now one of South Florida’s Best Rock & Party Cover Bands. One of the many things that makes us unique is our dynamic set lists. We are constantly adding new songs to our repertoire and select several songs based on fan feedback. Another thing that sets us apart from other bands is that we perform 100% live, have a full sound and do not use backing tracks. Additionally, we have both male and female lead vocalists (all four of the band members sing lead vocals) allowing us to cover an extensive list of the best rock and party songs of all time. It wasn’t easy getting to where we are today. There were several growing pains and obstacles along the way. However, we are extremely grateful and proud of how far we’ve come along and continue to grow despite those setbacks. We keep on trucking!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d definitely take them out to a nice Italian dinner at Ken & Mikes in Miami Lakes. They have the best Italian cuisine! After that, we would head down to South Miami for drinks and live music at Sunset Tavern. For daytime fun, we would head to Key Biscayne for a dip in the beach and BBQ at Bill Baggs State Park, a/k/a “El Farrito”, a tour of the lighthouse there and a bike ride down the key on through to Crandon Park and down the Rickenbacker Causeway to Hobie Beach.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband Drew. He is who drives me to be a better person, musician and friend than I was yesterday. He is my rock, my mentor and I love and admire him more and more every day. He dedicates so much of his time to the band, the band’s sound, booking, etc. Drew is the most passionate and talented musician I know. He is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, composer and an incredibly gifted and super skilled guitarist.
