We had the good fortune of connecting with Suki Lopez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Suki, what do you attribute your success to?
I think the most important factor in the success of MVSA is the heart thats behind it. My mother started MVSA almost 40 years ago. Her careful selection of Directors like Ms. Caro Wood-Castellanos and myself who foster the same ideals of a supportive environment while encouraging students to strive for greatness is a big reason people stick around and alumni keep coming back. We care deeply about our students and are invested in their growth as dancers and as people. We also hold ourselves to the highest standards. We continue to grow and set new goals for ourselves and model that for our students. The goal is always to be better than we were yesterday. That applies to dance as well as life.
What should our readers know about your business?
MVSA studios the world is our stage.
MVSA’s Tailored Approach
At MVSA, we understand that every student is unique, with their own dreams, goals, and schedules. That’s why we take immense pride in offering a range of performing arts classes and tailor schedules to cater to the individual needs and aspirations of our students.
EXPERIENCE
WE HAVE BEEN DEDICATED TO EXCELLENCE IN DANCE EDUCATION FOR OVER 35 YEARS AND WE’VE CONTINUED TO GROW AND REFINE OUR METHODS WITH EACH YEAR.
PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY
WE PROVIDE EVERY STUDENT WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO PERFORM IN A FULL PRODUCTION ON A PROFESSIONAL STAGE, IN OUR ANNUAL END OF THE YEAR PERFORMANCE. AN EXPERIENCE THAT DELIGHTS BOTH PARENTS AND STUDENTS.
VERSATILITY
WE OFFER OPTIONS FOR EVERYONE, FROM CLASSES THAT MEET ONCE A WEEK TO DEDICATED COMPETITIVE TEAMS IN ALL DANCE FORMS.
COMMUNITY
Our devoted team of Directors, teachers and staff are the heart of MVSA. The studio is an artistic home for us as well as our dancers. Our students grow and learn together. The bonds built in the halls last a lifetime.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to a ventanita for croquettas and cafesito. Its so uniquely Miami and the cafesito is unmatched at ANY Miami ventanita. Better than Starbucks by a mile.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
MVSA & My Mom Maria Verdeja
From pre-K through my senior year, Maria Verdeja School of the Arts was my second home. There, I immersed myself in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary, Tap, Pointe, and Musical Theatre, thanks to incredible teachers who pushed me to reach my full potential and offered countless opportunities to perform. More than just technical training, MVSA gifted me a vibrant community of loyal, creative friends—relationships that continue to enrich my life today.
Returning to MVSA to offer the same nurturing environment where kids can freely express themselves and find a sense of belonging fills me with immense pride. Carrying forward the legacy my mother started is both an honor and a deeply personal joy.
