We had the good fortune of connecting with SunJa Leon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi SunJa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The genesis of Nokkha Consulting Group is deeply rooted in a lifelong commitment to giving back. Growing up, I was instilled with the value of community service by my grandmother, who consistently contributed to various communities. My grandmother, an inspiring figure, always had an open heart, wanting to help everyone either by giving food, money, clothing, or whatever else she could provide. Hailing from Haiti, where there was a continual need, giving back became an integral part of our family ethos. This inspired me to start my own family nonprofit, The Revive Foundation, an organization that helps underprivileged children.
The driving force behind Nokkha Consulting Group emerged from a desire to do more. Faced with the challenge of figuring out how to make a greater impact, I embarked on a journey of self-education. I delved into extensive reading, attended relevant classes, and honed my skills to become a knowledgeable resource for those with similar questions and aspirations.
In essence, I’ve been involved in this work for as long as I can remember. The formalization of Nokkha Consulting Group in the last two years was a natural progression—a way to structure and expand my efforts in assisting nonprofits. It’s a fulfillment of a lifelong commitment to giving back and providing a platform for others who share the vision of growth and positive impact within their communities.”
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets Nokkha Consulting Group apart is our deeply rooted commitment to making a meaningful impact. We stand out not just as consultants but as partners in the growth and success of every nonprofit we work with. What I am most proud of is the journey that has brought us to where we are today. It has been anything but easy, but every challenge has been a stepping stone to our current position.
The path to building this business was marked by a relentless pursuit of knowledge and a genuine desire to address the unique needs of nonprofits. It wasn’t an easy journey, and overcoming challenges required resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to learn. I sought out solutions by reading extensively, taking relevant courses, and staying connected with the nonprofit community to understand their evolving needs.
Through this journey, I’ve learned invaluable lessons. Patience is key when navigating the intricate world of nonprofits, and adaptability is crucial in an ever-changing landscape. Building a business is a continuous learning process, and every obstacle is an opportunity for growth.
I want the world to know about Nokkha Consulting Group is that we are more than consultants; we are passionate advocates for positive change. Our story is one of dedication, learning, and a genuine desire to contribute meaningfully to the success of nonprofits.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Exploring the vibrant tapestry of art, culture, and adventure in the area, a week-long excursion with a best friend would be a celebration of the local gems. Begin with a brunch at Red Rooster, setting the stage for a day of immersion in local art galleries including the N’Namdi Gallery and a shopping spree in the Design District. A beach day follows, basking in the sun and relishing seafood delights at beachfront eatery. The Little Haiti Cultural Center becomes a Sunday sanctuary, blending music, art, and community vibes. Midweek, dive into outdoor adventures, culinary explorations, and cultural experiences, including street art strolls and live performances in Midtown.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
“I find it challenging to attribute my journey to just one person, as it has been a collective effort. If I were to dedicate a shoutout, it would undoubtedly be to my grandmother, who set the foundation for a life dedicated to giving back. Her selflessness, whether it was providing food, money, clothing, or any form of support, has been my guiding light.
However, the tapestry of my support network extends beyond one individual. My family, as a whole, has been an unwavering pillar in my endeavors. My mom, in particular, has consistently been my biggest cheerleader, offering encouragement and support at every turn. Yet, it doesn’t stop there. Every member of my family has played a role in my success, contributing their unique strengths and perspectives.
My husband and children serve as constant motivation. Their belief in what I do propels me forward, urging me to keep going even when faced with challenges. It’s truly a collaborative effort, and I am immensely grateful for the collective support that has shaped my journey with Nokkha Consulting Group.”
