We had the good fortune of connecting with Sunny Simon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sunny, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I believe my legacy will be found in how my life evidenced my core values. Stated differently, did I walk the talk? If I were to rank my core values, I would slot integrity at the top. In the book The Four Agreements, shamanic teacher Don Miguel Ruiz advises to “be impeccable with your word.” I want to be remembered by others as someone who always kept her word and acted with honesty and truth in both my business and personal transactions. As a self-described optimist, my desired legacy should include role modeling living life on the sunny side. I want to be remembered as a woman who could find the silver lining in the most dismal situations. If, after I exit this world, people speak of me as an optimist who acted with grace and integrity, then I did it right.
What should our readers know about your business?
My professional career in HR provided me with numerous opportunities to coach individuals at all levels, including CEOs. I partnered with managers helping them create well functioning departments that successfully empowered employees to reach and grow. Over the years, I managed human resource departments for start-ups, mid-range, and Fortune 500 companies. I have also worked for an international career management firm. The next logical step in my career reinvention was to establish a career coaching business. I’m passionate about helping others grow their career. Since starting the practice, I’ve helped hundreds of individuals assess and market their strengths, get that elusive first interview and land their job of choice. I attribute my success to my experience and passion. As a former HR executive turned career coach, I know first-hand about career reinvention, climbing the career ladder, and moving around the country for the right opportunity. I’m passionate about coaching others through the written word which is part of my brand. While living in California I wrote a weekly career advice column for five years in the Coachella Valley Weekly.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I recently relocated from California and currently make my home in South Palm Beach. My friends and family love visiting as the beach is a stone’s throw from our cozy condo. We do sunrise walks on the beach. You’ll find us having cocktails at the Old Key Lime House, dinner at Ravish, and other fun eateries in Lantana. Dining at the Paradiso makes for a great evening when pared with community theater at the Lake Worth theater. In season both big and little kids love a visit to Manatee Lagoon in West Palm Beach.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I love giving recognition so thank you for the opportunity to give a shoutout to two of my corporate mentors, Libby Pannwitt founder of the Work*Life Design Group who served as my go-to advisor whenever I needed guidance stepping up that career ladder. Also, hats off to Pauline Thomas, an amazing leader who gave me my first job in Human Resources. After leaving the corporate world for entrepreneurship, I relied on a group I call my Sunshine Tribe. Always there to cheer me on, lend sage advice, or a helping hand. I’d be lost without them. During the past month, I had the support of many wonderful friends as I took my book, Life on the Sunny Side: Inspirations for Busy Women That Will Ignite Your Dreams and Brighten Your Life to market. I must give recognition to Irma Parone of The Parone Group for her continued assistance in promoting this motivational book for women.
