We had the good fortune of connecting with Supa Cindy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Supa Cindy, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think that the most important factor behind my success has been being honest, open and myself with my audience. I have always been relatable so that I am never talking at my audience but having a conversation with them. I have been on radio for 23 years and have been that way since day 1. I have shared my joys, my breakups, the grief I endure after the deaths of my Mami and Abuela the same week nin 2019. I never look down at my community and do my best to always express patience and love. But when they upset me (don’t get it twisted) I epress that as well!! LOL That’s why me andd my brand are successful.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started in radio as an intern and worked my way up. People see me now and have no clue my journey to become “The Queen of Miami Radio” but I was overlooked time and time again. I would cry and complain about it and then finally stopped crying, silenced myself and sat still so that I could truly analyze what was really happening. I truly believe that all of the hurdles and obstacles that I have grown through were not meant to be stop signs but only speed bumps that were necessary so that I could reset and make wiser decisions.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would got eat at a Haitian restaurant, a Dominican restaurant and of course at House of Mac, DJ Khaled’s The Licking, Trick Daddy’s Sunday Eatery. I would definitely got to the Farmer’s Market in Coconut Grove on Sasturday to eat the healthiest and yummiest vegan food and fruit juices, then I would upscale it to Barton G’s and Casa Matildas Steakhouse.
I would go visit Musezeum in Wynwood for some amazing art ad vibes and definitely hit up a few spas.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
At the start of my career I read a book titled, “What youu think of me is none of my business” by Terry Cole-Whittaker and it completely changed my life and how I move.
I am grateful for GOD’s grace, patience and love for me. I also want to celebrate my Abuela (Grandmother) and the unconditional love she gave me from the moment I was born. There have been people that have supported me in so many ways throughout the years and I am forever grateful to them as well.
