We had the good fortune of connecting with Susana Cisneros and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Susana, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Over 10 years ago, Magita and I were working on a client project and realized how challenging it was to source decorative pillows, lamps, wallpaper, and home accessories. That’s when the idea for Plume came to us and we decided we would fill the need for a uniquely curated home accessories boutique in Miami. We wanted to be a resource for designers and customers to shop and feel inspired. As a mother daughter team, it gives us great pride to work together in a profession we love!
What should our readers know about your business?
Plume Home Decor is a home accessories boutique but it is much more than that to our clients and community. Over 7 years ago we opened our boutique in the heart of Coral Gables with the intention of creating a curated design space for shoppers. We spent many months looking for the best fabrics, wallpapers, lighting, and pillows. We work closely with our vendors to keep up with the design trends but we also set our selves apart by finding unique pieces too. Many of the one of a kind items we stock are as a result of our world travels. Our clients appreciate that sophistication and attention to detail are a priority for our merchandise. In addition to providing the highest quality in products, we pride ourselves on excellent customer service. At Plume, we also provide interior design services to private clients. After many years of working on custom projects, we realized that many clients need help with only one area of their home or perhaps have a need for accessorizing their already designed spaces. We take on those projects because we love to put the finishing touches on any space of your home. You do not have to have a big budget to have beautiful design. Plume is a boutique, a design studio, and a source of design inspiration for our clients.
Over the years we have learned to tailor our merchandise to our market without compromising quality. Over the past two years we have dealt with the challenges of the pandemic. Like many others, we were closed for several months and we faced a lot of uncertainty. Luckily, we came back stronger than ever and have been able to thrive in the post pandemic world. The supply chain issues have been difficult to navigate but we have found ways to meet our client needs by sourcing locally. The pandemic also pushed us to create our own pillow collection, something we had dreamed of doing from the beginning. We designed and manufactured two collections and expanded our e commerce platform. We strive to provide the best quality product and the best customer service to our clients and that has been the key to our success.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a Miami native, I would love to show my friend all of the rich culture, amazing restaurants, and unique natural habitat we live in.
Take a walk in Coconut Grove and have lunch at Bellini to enjoy the view.
Don’t forget to explore the Barnacle!
Take a day trip to the Everglades National Park and take an airboat ride to explore our unique River of Grass.
A day at the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens.
A beach day in Key Biscayne-rent bikes at Bill Baggs and take a look at the lighthouse.
Lastly, go to Little Havana walk on Calle Ocho, have a cafecito and some Cuban food at Versailles.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We’d like to dedicate this shout out to all the women entrepreneurs and mother daughter business owners out there. We feel so blessed to work together as a mother daughter team. A special shout out to our husbands for being our biggest supporters and cheerleaders.
