We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Jeter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sydney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I value freedom and feeling free in any circumstances that I am in. My personality doesn’t work well with feeling limited or caged in. From a young age I always told my parents that the 9-5 life wasn’t for me. I knew I wanted to something more unconventional that answered my desire for freedom and adventure. Photography started as an interest and hobby for 2 years before it become an idea for a career. I love getting to make my own schedule, travel, connect with awesome people from around the world, and photography is the perfect combination of business and creativity.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a photographer specializing in lifestyle, editorial, and weddings. I travel globally for destination weddings as well as fashion editorial shoots. My photos capture emotion and tell story of love, brands, and people. My photos are more on the moodier side, staying pretty true to color, but with a classic and vintage flare. My photos are fun, romantic, classy, glowing. I am always really excited to meet with clients and get creative with them. In order to create something beautiful, we need to be comfortable with each other, so I truly consider all my clients as friends and value their stories that I am telling. Instagram has been a huge factor in my success and the way it allows clients to find me so easily. I’ve learned that organization is key for a smooth-running business as well as client relations. It is my job to create the fun environment for clients during shoots and ensuring their entire process of working with me is a positive experience.
I want the world to know that I truly love showing people how they glow. Often times during shoots I will show clients my camera so they see what I see, and 9 times out of 10 they are shocked by how great the photo looks and how beautiful they look. I get to give them the gift of seeing their true beauty that God gave them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would wake up early and go for a sunrise paddle boarding trip. The gulf is calmer in the early mornings and I love getting on the water and looking for cool wildlife. Next, we would eat breakfast at Black Bear Bread Co. Their tartines and pastries are soo good. We would spend some time on the beach reading books and napping in the sun and ride bikes around town. We would eat lunch at Shunk Gulley for some oysters. Then we would get ready for dinner at The Citizen in Alys Beach. I love walking around Alys to look at the architecture and beauty. I love to rollerblade around Grayton Beach. And my favorite thing is enjoying a lovely sunset on the beach with some wine and snacks.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents have always believed in me and been huge supporters of me. They are a voice of reason in my sometimes lofty ideas, but have always told me that I was destined for big things. They are very encouraging and still a voice of reason for me, and I appreciate their place in my story so much. The community of people and other entrepreneurs that I am surrounded by in my hometown (Santa Rosa Beach, Florida) were the driving force behind my decision to quit my job and pursue my business in photography. They have continued to push me and motivate me to dream and work hard. I also have to shoutout the Live Rooted Photography Retreat that I attended in Utah that taught me so many helpful things about photography and how to run a photography business. I am so grateful for Morgan & Danielle’s leadership during that retreat that grew my business to where it is today.
