We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Shank and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sydney, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to shift from the field I was working in, into the field of nutrition, which had become my passion due to its impact on my personal life and the impact I’d seen it make on others as well. I also desired flexibility with my family, as raising my daughter caring for our home are top priorities for me. Starting my own business seemed to be a way to accomplish both of these things. However, starting a business is/was challenging in a lot of ways! Right now, I am running my business part time on the side while I continue to work my “9-5”, with the goal of my business becoming full time!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I serve women as a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner that specifically focuses in on women’s health. I help women support their body through nourishment and small lifestyle changes to promote balanced hormones, easy conception, and an empowered pregnancy and postpartum period (and everything in between!)

My passion for nutrition and serving women was largely shaped by many of my own difficulties and challenges I experienced. After navigating my own health issues for years, I became passionate about supporting women so they didn’t have to. My love and knowledge specifically for perinatal nutrition bloomed from my own experience conceiving, carrying, and birthing my daughter, as I realized that the majority of women were not being educated with the knowledge necessary to have their healthiest pregnancy possible, knowing that nutrition and lifestyle changes could make such a positive impact on their whole experience, from preconception through postpartum. I am proud that what I offer to women through free education on social media and within my course and one on one programs is easily understandable and applicable – it was important to me that what I was creating felt approachable and doable for women.

I really saw an opportunity specifically to help women prepare their bodies for pregnancy, as I saw information and support in this area was hard to come by and severely lacking from many conventional providers. That’s how my online course, The Prepared Preconception Method, was born!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is definitely going to be to my husband, Cooper! Without his support and encouragement, I probably would have never enrolled with the Nutritional Therapy Association. My enrollment not only majorly shaped my perspective and built my knowledge, but completely changed the trajectory of what I was pursuing vocationally in life and the vision I had for our family long term.
