We had the good fortune of connecting with Sylvia Ibrahim and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sylvia, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Growing up, I was very Fortunate to have had a clear vision on what career path I wanted to take. I always said “Either Interior Design or Event Planning”. I loved both equally. So I enrolled in the Interior Decorating program at Sheridan College and also became the President of the Student Union, which allowed me to be heavily involved with the planning process of on campus Events. Since I was always intrigued by wedding planning, I ended up working with wedding planners over the course of 3 years, gaining hands on experience while also getting my certification in Home Staging. I realized I didn’t want to make a choice between wedding planning or Home Staging. I wanted to use my talent for both and that’s how Le Petit House came to life.

What should our readers know about your business?
Starting Le Petit House, My goal was to avoid being a niche planner/designer. I only moved to Canada 10 years ago, grew up in a very diverse environment with a deep appreciation for all the different cultures. So I wanted my business to reflect that by attracting clients from different backgrounds, with different stories and be able to create designs unique to who they are. & I am extremely proud to have been able to do that and be part of beautiful Fusion events that celebrate culture. So far, we’ve planned weddings from over 10 different cultural backgrounds. & Every time, I learn something new and beautiful about that culture and I’m able to make sure it is represented.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m not a city girl myself so I would probably take them for a beautiful Hike at Rattlesnake Point, followed by Brunch on the patio at Narenj (let’s assume the weather is beautiful!) After that, we would make our way to the beautiful Burlington Waterfront for a walk, strolling the streets and checking out all the local businesses.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am very fortunate to have had a lot of support from Family & Friends, encouraging me to start this Business. But a very special shoutout goes to my dear friend Mia who is a Marketing Genius. She helped me with my Website and Branding shoot in my first year of business, spending hours of her time just to see me succeed. Thank you Mia!
