We had the good fortune of connecting with Symon Plante and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Symon, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When It comes to risks, I think its most definitely vital in your journey of making your dreams a reality. They’re signs to show how bad you want something, also I feel it helps to shape you as an individual. I was always told that ” If you’re not uncomfortable, or scared in your journey, then are you progressing? Are you making it?” Risk taking in my own career has definitely been important in shaping who I am and what I stand for as an Artist. Being a Musician apart of the LGBTQ community. I always was afraid of expressing that side of myself (my sexuality) in my music/art. Even though I knew it was what would help me achieve complete creative freedom in my craft; I was still afraid of the risk of people not approving, better yet writing off my music entirely and not even giving it a chance. However, taking that risk of expressing all aspects of myself in my art has for sure helped me find more of who I am as an artist, and breathed a whole new life into my creativity. It was a risk that was most certainly necessary to take.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a singer songwriter that makes what I would like to call pop/soul music? I feel like my music does have a lot of pop influences, however some R&B influences as well. So Ive come to the conclusion that It is pop/soul! I have been very keen on the concept of making sad dance music as of late, I love a good song that really gets you dancing, that really can draw you in with a good bassline and hook. Though I do also love to write about emotional material, such as loss, deception, trauma, more or less heartbreak. So Ive decided why not just combine the two entities. How I got where I am professionally, definitely was due to a ton of self work, consistency, and hustle! for instance I still am a freelance MUA in order to help fund my music/craft. I for sure Am not yet where I want to be but the hustle and determination is necessary. The lessons I have learned along the way so far is that this road is not for the faint hearted, it takes a lot of work and dedication and long nights. Just for people to still possibly not have faith in you. However, As long as you believe in yourself and understand your self worth and potential, then you’re a force to be reckoned with! What I want the world to know about my brand or story is that In a world where we get constantly judged for being who we are, I want to give people the sense of self reassurance and expression through my art form. I want to inspire people to be vulnerable, achieve their aspirations, and know its okay to express yourself, and show people why you’re meant to shine.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly one of the first places we would have to visit would be wilton drive without a doubt. I may not go as frequent as I use to, however I think its a must on the list, no one parties like the LGBTQ community. For the most part I have become a Bar person, and I love to play some pool! I always end going to corner pocket because its usually chill which helps me to just decompress and enjoy a good pool game. brunch could be great too, even though I don’t have one in particular, I would say tap 42? is that basic of me for picking a restaurant chain? and definitely for sure the beach, its so calming, you get some sun, get a nice tan, cant beat that!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my parents and my peeps for always pushing me to go past my limits, for always believing in me and supporting my dreams, for being there when I was only doing open mics and didn’t have the confidence or idea in what I was capable of in regards to my art. I also want to thank all the new supporters I have received with my recent work, I love the relationships that I build with you guys every day and I’m thankful that you all like me enough to stick around! I feel the love.
