We had the good fortune of connecting with Tai Hall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tai, what do you attribute your success to?
I know what being homeless feels like. I know what starving feels like. I know what it means to lose it all— standing in a gas station with a line forming behind me counting out nickels and dimes to put just enough gas in my car. Knowing pain and shame of taking risks that don’t always work out being a flower that blooms in the dark allowed me to navigate blooming in the light. I’m not afraid because what most people fear I’ve already experienced. And that reality haunts me to never get comfortable. To never allow myself or my son to live in shelters or sleep in the back of my car. I never get to the “I’ve arrived moment”. I hustle, learn, thrive, and study my industry and craft and infuse everything I’ve learned along the way back into the company allowing my past pain to fuel future purposes and passions. I am successful because there was once a time when I failed.
What should our readers know about your business?
Business? I’m most impressed with my determination. My grit. My ability to overcome. Heck no this wasn’t easy lol. Late nights without my son, driving 2hrs to get home after late night sessions doing hw with him on Facetime. Long nights and weekends. Leaving an abusive relationship. Falling homeless. Saving up money and buying a house from the last people who fired me after they lost it in foreclosure. Filing bankruptcy. Almost losing the house and having to hustle in a way I never knew was possible to make $49k in SEVEN DAYS to keep from losing the house. Lessons learned? Invest in yourself. Make and take calculated risks. Learn the stock market. Share your story you never know who can help you. Learn to ask for help. Expect nothing. Work harder than everyone else. Think outside the box. Learn to do more with less. While everyone expects is to be great at self-love, we were never explicitly taught HOW. This book was created to help each doll to retrain her thoughts about herself during one of the most vulnerable times in her life.” – Tai Hall Creating the products and services that this industry needs while balancing personal and professional demands proved to be labors of love that replenish in Tai what she pours out into her clients everyday. Through her entrepreneurial experiences, Tai has exuded the innate ability to relate to anyone, to withstand life obstacles, think creatively in such a mass media guided world, and thrive… inspiring others to do the same. Tai has her sights set far and wide, tunnel visioned in on becoming the pinnacle brand for postOperative care amongst clients, other care providers, and surgeons, as well as providing safe havens for those to research their own journey to self love on their terms.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Never home but always reppin, im a Maryland girl! We would get crabs from Shoreline in Crofton, Md. Go to sandy point and have a picnic watch the planes take off from the airport. Take a stroll on Black Lives Matter plaza in DC. Hit up a comedy show followed by bar hopping in Adams Morgan. Jumbo slice after the clubs let out. Get massages at Robert Andrews, and go shopping at Pentagon City. Have lunch a food trucks and a walk the Tidal Basin. Take pictures at Art District in DC, go to an orchestra symphony at the Kennedy Ctr.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My son and boyfriend. They’ve sacrificed along with me to get to this point. My boyfriend has been my everything through this empire building journey over the past 3 years. And before then? My son and I learned how to pitch together. We took what little money I had left, got some janky business cards made at Staples, looked up the richest neighborhood in Maryland and went door to door “pitching”: we’re not here to change your religion AND we’re not trying to sell you anything. My mommy started a massage business and we just wanted to give you our card; if you’re ever in need of our services we at Taime Out massage studios would love to take care of you.
