We had the good fortune of connecting with Taisha DeAza and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taisha, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
As most of the world, 2020 was one of the most difficult and confusing years of my life. For me, it was filled with extreme highs and lows. April of 2020, I was at a high- I had become a mother to my first child, a boy named Kyler. By November, I had experienced my worst low-I had lost my dad, my best friend, my mentor, and one of my favorite people in the entire world. Without my dad, I felt lost in this world. I knew that if I didn’t find something I was passionate about, I was going to lose myself. My dad used to always tell me, “time will pass either way.” I was confident that I could find a way to combine motherhood and my entrepreneurial skills- hence the birth of Bunnies Ark. I am so thankful I did not give up because I have never been more passionate about something. My passion keeps me going.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started off by going to law school at St.Thomas in Miami Gardens. After two years struggling, and 25 pounds lighter due to stress, I left that venture behind. I knew when to stop when it was impacting my health. For a long time, I saw my time in law school as a failure but my parents always reminded me that failure was an important part of my trajectory. As long as I continued working and moving forward, nothing was seen as a failure. I ended up finishing and publishing my book, Frail, a young adult fiction novel. Afterwards, I got my Master’s in Writing at Nova Southeastern University. I then started to work as a copywriter. My then boyfriend (now husband) introduced me to marketing and I fell in love. I created ads on Google, Microsoft Bing, and all other search engines. I loved seeing how my ads were improving the return on investment for these businesses. I also loved working with businesses both large and small to reach their goals. My clients ranged from hotels, attorneys, to big name beauty brands, vehicle parts and more. I was happy to find a stable career in digital marketing and I knew I could apply these skills I was learning every day to a business of my own one day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
With a child, my plans have dramatically changed hahaha. I’ll go anywhere that my son will also have a good time. Disney is always on the top of my list. But I also love using Resortpass and getting a day pass to a hotel- my current favorite is the Turnberry in Aventura.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My father, Alex DeAza, deserves a shoutout. As a successful business owner and Public Adjuster in South Florida for 20 year, he instilled the entrepreneurial values and business leadership I needed to succeed. Most importantly, he reminded me that my gender should never be a factor for anyone to value me any less as an entrepreneur. He always introduced me to women in leadership roles, mayors, and business owners all throughout Florida to remind that I too could succeed.
