We had the good fortune of connecting with Tallisker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tallisker, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was born with an explorer’s spirit ! From an early age I was attracted to everything that was unknown, puzzling, different from my background. I am truly fascinated by the diversity of people, territories and cultures that inhabit this planet. As a teenager I thought whatever career I would embrace, it should take me places ! When my music career developed, it all made sense : I was able to create, travel and meet new people at the same time. It is no surprise that, as an adult, I run my own business and freedom is at the chore of my lifestyle.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a very idealistic person, a true dreamer. I have never thought of myself as a product of the music industry. I have never calculated which trend I should follow, how I should I look, nor who I should hang out with to become famous, or stuff like that. I am proud that I stayed authentic and followed my intuitions instead of letting this industry dictate me how to behave. No cooperating with the market expectations and sticking to your indie values somehow makes it hard to expand and to get noticed. I have a decent “life of bohême”, with ups and downs, successes and failures, and I am happy like this.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I have a love-hate relationship with Paris. I come from a smaller town and I find big cities quite oppressing. To cope with this, I have found some grounding habits in my Parisian neighbourhood, Belleville. I would recommend to go for a coffee & croissant on the nearby Belvédère, an open air square above the Park of Belleville, where you can grab the rays of sunshine between 10 am and 3pm every day. Then We would have lunch at the Paloma bistro (rue Julien Lacroix). They make a unique menu everyday (entrée + plat + dessert) for 16 euros. Super French, fresh and tasty and healthy ! Then, an afternoon walk by the Canal St Martin is a reasonable way to get diverted or inspired. It’s delightful on every season. In the summer, you go to the shop for snacks and drinks and open you bottle of wine by the Canal when the sun declines. Finally, Belleville hosts the best Asian and North-African food options you can dream of. My favourite is Lao Siam rue de Belleville.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to Sūn Jùn ! He is my best friend and an extremely talented music producer and solo artist. Ten years ago, he became interested my demos, we started working together and he took them to another level. He has a sound culture like no one else and a very strong artistic vision. Together we have a “goosebump code”, which means we won’t release a track as long as it doesn’t give us plenty of goosebumps from the intro to the outro. Also, both of us have been through difficult times in our lives, and we understand and support each other as much as we can. You should definitely check at his solo project, it’s so rare.
