We had the good fortune of connecting with Tameshia Sexton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tameshia, do you think college was worth it?
Wow, good question. College made a positive impact on my life however, it did not make a positive impact in my career. At least I don’t see it that way. College was fun! The experience was positive and I met some great people along the way. In 2020, you honestly don’t need a degree to become successful. So the price I paid to go to college was not worth the price tag. In order to enter my career field of choice a degree was required. Hence, why I went to college. However, nothing that I learned in college applied to the work I was actually doing. Years later I became an entrepreneur. I realized that everything I learned about business was self taught. I didn’t pay anyone for a business degree. Social media became a platform for small businesses and I took advantage of the opportunity. My first year in business I made 30k. That was equal to my first year of student loans. Imagine if I didn’t go to college? I would still be a self taught entrepreneur but instead of spending 30k in loans I would’ve been banking this stream of income from day one and earning more every year.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Business hasn’t always been easy. In fact social media has made it look easier than it is but I’m here to tell you IT’S NOT. To operate a successful business it takes time, consistency, and dedication. My first 2 years of business I did not see any profit (I put out more than I made), I lost one of my social media pages, and my marketing was not consistent. At that time, I started to get weary and my spirits were low. In order to overcome these challenges I knew I had to make some changes. Fast forward, I learned and educated myself in branding and marketing. I watched other young successful entrepreneurs who had success from using social media, and I paced myself to find my niche. I started paying attention to my audience. I realized that what I put out is what I would get back. The key to business is to providing a service that caters to the need of your audience. Once I learned that lesson my brand expanded in ways I could never imagine. The best part of my business experience was not giving up and being able to see my vision become a reality. Anyone who has come in contact with me can attest to my work ethic, pure heart, and my powerful testimony that I turned from a negative to positive. The modeling industry can be a bit much at times but being apart of a movement that allows you to grow with your peers, learn with them, and receive coaching/guidance that’s helps you be a better YOU across the board not just as a model…. Well that’s Mesh Dollhouse.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly, just being around my friends is all I need. I typically don’t plan and make itineraries for anything. I live in the moment and enjoy life. But on a typical day we would probably go to a spa, have lunch, and drinks. Some of my favorite restaurants include Big Pink on South Beach, Texas De Brazil, and Longhorn. Shopping is always at the top of a girls list!! So hitting the malls would be next. Being in Miami comes with its perks because there is always something to do. So the remainder of our weekend would be spent enjoying the beaches, going to Wynwood for nightlife festivities, and cruising through Miami.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to someone who may not even know that I remember his name… Vanley Ludwig. This gentleman made comment on my Facebook page in Sept 2016 suggesting that I try modeling. I mean I was photogenic but I had never thought about modeling or taking professional photos. I’m sure he didn’t think anything of it, right? It was just a simple comment. Well that one comment was enough to set the rest of my life in motion thereafter. He sparked a flame in me that I didn’t see in myself. Fast forward, I took his advice and did my first photoshoot a month later. Needless to say, four years later I am a successful social influencer,/plussize model, operate a successful model management company and empowerment group, helped my youngest daughter start her own modeling troop at 7 years old, and have been with my significant other for the past 3 years after meeting him through modeling; he’s a photographer who asked to work me when I initially started. Mr. Ludwig who deserve this shoutout because your comment ultimately changed my life!! I just needed that push!! And God has allowed me to soar every since. THANK YOU!
