We had the good fortune of connecting with Tamika Bickham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamika, what do you attribute your success to?
I think practicing what I preach. We tell our clients’ stories through video and other organic content. I create video content for myself. I show up online and tell my story. I send emails to my email list of contacts. I think I am authentic and genuine. People get to know the real me and what I’m about through the content I create. I produce a video podcast.

It’s generated my company a lot of business and connections, as well as access to clients I wouldn’t have had otherwise. It works and I know that because I do it myself in my own business.

What should our readers know about your business?
I started my video and content marketing agency as a side-hustle in 2015. I was working full-time for a nonprofit in South Florida creating video content, managing social media, the blog, and other story-driven content. My past life is as a journalist, where I was a reporter for WPLG Local 10 News. So I always loved telling visual stories. I love interviewing people, and helping them build a connection with their audience. I grew to love being on camera.

My first client met me out at an event, and asked me to produce a video for them. I said yes, and had no idea it would turn into this. I started side-hustling and had about 4-5 clients I’d work with. And then, in 2018, I got laid off from my full-time job with the City of Miramar. I didn’t see it coming, and I didn’t know what I was going to do. With a lot of sacrifice, hard work (which continues to this day), I was able to transition my side-hustle to a full-time business with a team of 8 and over 40 clients served!

Biggest lessons I’ve learned: Don’t stop learning. Don’t be afraid to say no. Know your value and worth. Stay in your lane and hire others who can do the things you don’t want to. Take time to refill your cup.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh my goodness! So me and my best friend like a little fun and a little relaxation. So I’d say we’d do a day a the Biltmore – rent a cabana, do a spa treatment, and enjoy the pool for the day. That’s a relaxing and chill vibe. I’d definitely do a morning kayak at Oleta River State Park. I love to get out on the water and then maybe lunch at Duffy’s nearby on the intracoastal. 2 for 1 drinks anyone? If you go on Sunday, they have a DJ, you can get in the pool. It’s really fun! I’d probably do happy hour at Shucker’s in North Bay Village, which is a locals spot. But if the weather is good, it’s beautiful and a chill vibe. If we wanted to keep the party going from there, we could drive down the road to The Anderson for live music and drinks. The other thing on the list for the week would probably be a beach day on South Beach, followed by dinner at one of our favorites – Prime 112. I mean it’s the perfect weeklong outing in Miami, right?

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost is my mom. She’s always been my biggest supporter no matter what I wanted to do. Anyone who is an entrepreneur knows, it’s lonely. It’s isolating. Oftentimes you don’t know if what you are doing is the right or wrong thing. Having support from a loved one who believes in you, when no one else does, goes a long way. When you are your own boss, no one tells you good job or “I’m proud of you.” That’s hard. But my mom is that person for me, and keeps me going when I hit roadblocks.
