We had the good fortune of connecting with Tammy Rosen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tammy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
After having my first son, I felt like I needed to do something for myself, but I also faced the challenge of wanting to control my own schedule. While brainstorming what to do, I asked myself what is something I do every day and how can I incorporate it into a business. I realized that I spend hours a day looking at what’s new in the fashion industry, and that’s not so normal for everyone else. While trying to figure out what I can do with this, I also noticed that I love to help my friends and family find outfits for events, clean out my closet seasonally, and find hard-to-find items for everyone around me (and it’s exciting for me). It just clicked for me. I was relatively new to Miami and quickly realized there weren’t many personal stylists here, so I assumed there might be a need for it. I decided to take a leap of faith and give it a try. To my surprise, people were thrilled and kept coming back. I realized I could make something from this, and an idea that started as a fun tester run ended up being a full-blown business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a Personal Stylist, I assist clients with all their fashion needs. My range of services includes closet cleaning, wardrobe styling, vacation styling, event styling, and item sourcing. I also offer other services such as corporate or family photoshoot styling and bridal styling. I enjoy what I do and become thrilled every time I see my clients motivated and excited about dressing up after our sessions. I strongly believe that looking good helps us feel good, ultimately transforming our day-to-day mentality. My journey as a Personal Stylist started unconventionally. I didn’t attend fashion school, and my love for fashion was purely a passion. I created a successful curated multi-brand clothing concept by buying selective pieces at wholesale and selling them at retail. After a while, I realized that retail wasn’t for me because I was pushed into the role of managing the business rather than being able to focus on fashion itself. Fashion is ultimately what I love, so being a personal stylist allows me to focus on what I love and what I’m good at. Although I’m now doing what I love, lack of time has been a significant challenge for me since I’m a hands-on mom with two little boys while trying to grow my own business. I work long hours and still find that there aren’t enough hours in the day. However, I’ve learned that time management is crucial to accomplishing everything I want to do in a day. I’ve never felt more like a superwoman than I do today, and I’ve quickly learned that when you love what you do, it doesn’t feel like work.
I have different ways of making my work exciting for everyone involved. For example, to make a closet cleaning or wardrobe styling session enjoyable, I like to put on music and create a fun ambiance. This transforms the process into a fun time rather than something tiring and overwhelming. Even clients that dread getting dressed end up excited after working together which is one of my favorite feelings. I have a client who only wore gym clothes or sweats because she’s very athletic and dressing up was on the bottom of her priorities. I helped her do a mini closet cleaning and prioritized a wardrobe styling session for her and she was in owe by the combination of pieces she could make using her own clothes and how easy it was to get dressed up while still being comfortable. She told me that our experience together had changed her life, and she now makes more of an effort to get dressed up because she has a better understanding of what she can wear. I don’t only create outfits for my clients, but I also teach them how and why things go together, enabling them to come up with ideas of their own.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting the area without her kids, I would hope the weather is nice so we can have many beach days together with rose. I would take her to design district to walk around, shop and grab a bite to eat at Mandolin. After a day in design district, I’d bring her back in the night to have dinner at ZZs, Cote or Contessa. Another fun day plan we would do would be to walk around Bal Harbour shops and grab lunch at Makoto. We would drive up to Palm Beach to do some shopping and have lunch at Saint Ambreous. I’d venture to coconut grove on the weekend and enjoy shopping a little at the farmers market after having brunch at Sadelle’s. For a fun kareoke night I’d take her to Bay Club and have a pizza from Lucali. I’d also take her to Brickell City Center before going to dinner at either Cipriani, Osaka or Le Petite Maison.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I have to say, I probably wouldn’t have had the courage to take this leap of faith if it hadn’t been for my husband. His constant support, praise, mentorship, and encouragement are the reasons I was able to trust myself and push forward in moments when I felt demotivated. He’s one of my biggest cheerleaders and supporters. I’m also blessed to have an amazing support system in my sister, who is constantly celebrating my success. She briefly took this path once and worked as a personal stylist herself, so she was able to help guide me in the right direction.
