We had the good fortune of connecting with Tanice Lloyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tanice, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was 17 years old working at papa johns. One Saturday a coustomer came in and was picking up his order and when I gave him his change back he decided he wanted to give me a tip. However he did not hand the money to me in my hand he threw it at me and said shake something for some change. It was in that moment that I realized that I wanted to work for myself because I can choose and refuse whom I service.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I really love what I do. I get really excited when I get to transform a blank space into a master piece. Once the client tell me what they want it my job to bring it to life. I first started decorating events 7 years ago when my sister was pregnant and I decorated here baby shower. At the time I had no idea that this was going to be my business. While I was decorating I realized how excited I was to see it all come together. A few months later I did another event and that feeling came over me again. I was like ok maybe this is something that I can do as a business as I was looking for something that I was good at to start making money. When I first started no one would take me seriously and everyone wanted me to do their event for free so for a while I got discouraged and did not want to continue. One day I woke up and it’s kinda felt like I kick myself and said what are u doing u are not a quitter and I have watch my mom fail in business so many time and she has still not given up so how can I just throw away my talent at the first sign of others not believing in me. I have learned that your friends and family will support other before they support your business. Also never let other put their fair of doing something on you and make you start doubting yourself. I want other to know that the road was not easy but with prayer, heard work, perseverance and never giving up on you your time will come NEVER give up

I want to give a shout out to my mother. She is the person that showed me that in God all things are possible
