We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Deal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tara, why did you pursue a creative career?
From I can remember I was drawn to the arts, whether it was drawing, painting, creating my own magazines from other magazine clippings, being in school plays or singing in the church choir, it’s always been a passion for me. I’ve been a graphic artist/ brand and digital marketing specialist for about 15+ years now and had no idea that it would propel me into being a social media influencer with my own brand: That Libra Chic.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Even though I’m still and always will be a designer, I’m also a social media influencer, content creator/curator, a published author (you can find me on Lulu.com, Barnes & Noble, and Amazon) and I run my own online businesses. So, my plate is always full and I really don’t mind keeping busy. I’ve also worked with brands like clutch nails, maxi and zo, Adam & Eve, Just Fab, and Good American. I’ve also had my memes featured in online magazines like cosmopolitan and built my own ecomm business product lines, The Glimmering (sold ring lighting and more for influencers), my brand consulting and now I’m currently building my third online business Bar Bxtch which will launch very soon!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Miami is like my second home! I’ve studied, lived and I always visit Miami every chance I get. She is the city that my heart longs for when I need a getaway and she never disappoints and always gives the most exciting and best time ever!
Every time I visit Miami, I stay at EAST Miami in the Brickell City Centre. The ambiance, modern decor, city views and service is top notch and always gives me that glam chic feeling. Their rooftop bar “Sugar” featuring craft drinks & a tropical rooftop deck never disappoints!
Then there’s no better spot to begin than within the Wynwood Arts District. Wynwood is full of delightful diners and resturants, one of my favorites being KYU an Asian Cocktail Bar and Restaurant, and dozens of galleries along with local boutiques and thrift stores, but the real highlight is the Wynwood Walls, the beating heart of the neighborhood.
Your Miami trip cannot be complete without heading over to South beach! From Lummus Park, walk 10 steps and find yourself on Ocean Drive, one of the best streets to walk down in all of Miami. With vibrant, throwback architecture, the Art Deco buildings house a variety of restaurants, clubs and bars that are great for hopping and it’s always a great adventure! You will never be disappointed!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Following my passion and being a creative led me to working with a New York/Miami talent agent, Carissa Rossi of CRossi Entertainment who has linked me with some of her celebrity clients like Hazel-E, Angel Brinks, Neyo, etc. and even designing for celebrities like Mama Breezy (Chris Brown’s Mom) and the one and only MTV star Farrah Abraham. Like the universe literally rewarded me for following my chosen path.
