We had the good fortune of connecting with Tashawn Barber and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tashawn, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came up with the idea for my photography business literally growing up. I always had different visions and ideas that I’ve always wanted to create. Simply by day dreaming of ways I wanted a picture to be taken, the angels and tones I wanted to set. Also choosing the best outfit for a video or poses for photoshoots. So as a kid ideas just came to me like random thoughts. Until I got to high school. That’s when I picked up on the word and meaning of photography and started learning as much as I could from there.  That’s when the idea I could really make something of this, came about. As far as turning my visions from a kid into reality and building a career. Just to capture long lasting moments and create memories for people, of places and things that could be kept forever, really inspired me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The biggest difference I feel with my work from others is that, some of my work, I give and tell a story. Capturing a certain moment with every project I do. My favorite photographer, Gunnerstahl once said, “With every photo I capture, I’m just trying to capture a moment or tell something specific of or about someone that you’ll probably never see them in or doing .” That’s the best way I can explain it to people. I take pictures of people in moments they’ll probably never see themselves doing or even imagine themselves doing and just looking at themselves and be like ” WOW man that’s me! That’s hard as hell! ” The reaction is what it’s really all about to me. It started out in high school, sometimes failing in the class because the teacher wasn’t messing with the visions(which caused me to take a break), picking it back up after high school but not taking it seriously because of lack of support. Yeah you can say it was kind of hard for me. But my cousin, Deandre, was my biggest motivation for real, he was the one getting on me really if he had seen like I was starting to get lazy and giving me the equipment I needed if I had to finish something and even giving opportunities when he could. After he passed was really when I put my foot on the pedal, and just been going full blast ever since. Long live SK (4-3-21)

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t really go out around the city  or in my town to be real haha. Most of the time, I go to the movies a lot so I’ll have you know I get inspired by films also, But the city of Miami definitely would recommend anyone checking out. There’s literally everything and anything you would like to do down there for sure and the scenery is different.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Its SOOOOOOOO many people I have to thank for helping me get to this point where I am today. First of all, I would like to thank god for waking me up and blessing me each day. A big shoutout to my mom and dad for supporting me with the craft I put my heart and everything in. With all the love and sacrifices they’ve had to provide for me over the years, I swear I can’t thank them enough. I always got to give a shout to my friends and family of course especially to my cousin Deandre(rest his soul 4-3-21) for pushing me and helping me get that drive of always creating something fire. So yeah, big shout out to them always and forever.
