We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor B. Talks and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Taylor, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I first started my podcast during the pandemic lockdown in 2020 as a creative outlet. I was consuming so much true crime content and noticed I was hearing the same case retold a lot, so I knew I wanted to start my own show to bring awareness to underreported and cold cases. I always want the focus of my show to be bring awareness to the cases that don’t get media attention and getting justice for victims and their families.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Starting a creative journey had been a long time coming for me honestly. In 2018, I was diagnosed with cancer at 27 years old. I was working in an entertainment industry that job that required a lot of travel and 80+ hours of work a week. My cancer forced me to slow down and when I did, I realized that creativity was missing in my life.

I started my lifestyle brand, Taylor B. Talks on Instagram, where I focused primarily on good mental health for all, self love, and things I love like true crime. I grew my following there and cultivated a community that I was and am really proud of.

In 2020, we were obviously all in pandemic lockdown and I was consuming SO true crime content that I started to notice that a lot of the documentaries and podcasts tell a lot of the same stories. I knew I wanted to tell the stories and bring awareness to underreported and cold cases that didn’t get a lot of media attention.

When I started Murder on the Map, I genuinely thought only my mom would listen. I’m so thankful and happy that the show has gotten the attention of so many listeners who are passionate about justice for victims and their families just like I am. I love the community that I’ve managed to build through this show and I’m so excited to keep going in the future.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom started my love for true crime by letting me stay up way too late as a kid and watch Dateline and 20/20 with her. Those are some of my best memories.
