We had the good fortune of connecting with Tayo Ishola and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tayo, what matters most to you?
I believe strongly in fulfilling purpose, and the launching place for the journey is knowing one’s identity. This keeps me in a place of alignment with my vision and helps me filter through the noise that we sometimes have to navigate through in life. My identity is found in my relationship with God, so the guiding principle that helps me know where I am on my journey of purpose is “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” – Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m the Creative Director and Owner of Eido Swimwear, a Swimwear and Resort Wear brand. I started this brand because of inspiration I had received from some of my life’s encounters. At different points in my life where I had experienced difficulty, there was always a vessel God would use to uplift and propel me forward. Eido is an Ancient Greek word that means to be “discerning” or “aware”, and I thought a major ingredient had in coming to my aid was the level of discernment they had in knowing I was someone that needed assistance. The brand was built on this principle of authenticity, and human connection, as well the desire to remain unique so that the wearer not only stuns in a piece, but stands out so their appearance is a conversation starter. Some of the lessons I’ve learned along the way is to stay truthful to the voice within that guides us on our unique paths. At different points on my business journey, I had been swayed or pressured into making some decisions I ordinarily wouldn’t, and the fruit is revealed in the end. The lessons I gained have helped me stay grounded in my convictions as a leader of this brand. I want the world to know that purpose is important at the beginning, middle, and end of our brand journeys. Understanding that purpose will guide us on when and how we need to run, when to slow down, when to say no or yes, and how to conduct business in a way that positively impacts lives.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d start at a food truck in Wynwood for lunch and then we’d head to Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. A visit to the Spa at the Biltmore in Coral Gables definitely, and then dinner at Swan Miami. A trip to Brickell City Center, and Bal Harbor shops most certainly will happen. Authentic seafood at Sonia’s Seafood on 8th Street, and then amazing worship at Vous Church in Wynwood because it’s always a time of refreshing.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mother deserves a shoutout, as she helped me navigate a path in fashion. She introduced me to fashion and initiated everything that led me to accepting a place and call in the fashion industry.
