We had the good fortune of connecting with Temia Gardner and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Temia, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
One thing about the beauty industry outsiders are unaware of is the work load. As an entrepreneur first then a hair stylist. We are constantly creating on the back end and on the front. We have to be there to make sure that the ball keeps moving. It’s a very rewarding yet overwhelming and demanding field.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a creative hair stylist. I have the ability of taking a bad hair situation and turn it into a miracle. I am so honored to be able to help those suffering from hair loss achieve the growth they’ve dreamed of getting. With lots of research, coaching, mentoring and investing time into my craft. It’s not easy at all. It takes hard work and dedication. Sometimes no sleep. As a creative you have to chime in on a focal point. My focal point is my kids. They are 14 and 9 they are both very helpful to me. I know that if I quit my children will look and know that mom didn’t finish. Mom quit! So, I press, I dig and I grind harder. I’ve learned to never take anything or anyone for granted. Things don’t just happen. Things happen for a reason. “Eat the fish spit, out the bones” is what my grandfather would say to me. I want the world to know that you are looking at someone who came from being looked over, someone who gave up hope, someone who gave up on their dreams for a moment. Until one day something happened and it all came together. You are looker at an overcomes, achiever, a dreamer, influencer, risk taker and more than anything a fighter.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d start at the  St. John’s Town Center for shopping, food & fun. We would check out all of the shops on the strip. Treat them to a day at the spa. More than anything we will take time to catch up!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Of course. I actually have a few to name. First I would like to give a huge shout to God! He makes all things possible for me. Secondly I’d like to shoutout my a couple of coaches in my life, Sherita Cherry of Atlanta, Ga. , Dr. Carolyn Boston Love of Jacksonville,Fl. Carmen Davenport of Jacksonville, Fl. Next I’d like to thank my Pastors Apostle Stan Williams & Dr. Denise Williams  for their constant words of encouragement. Lastly my mentor shes constantly challenging me to keep going, keep pressing and keep pushing.
