We had the good fortune of connecting with Temiloluwa Egberongbe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Temiloluwa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There wasn’t much thinking put towards my business when i first started. I just wanted to capitalize off my hobby and talent, that was all it was. But as time went by, i realized i couldn’t just do that and expect growth. I’ve always thought of doing makeup as a hustle, but now i gotta think of it as both an hustle and a business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Beammeuptemi is a sole proprietorship that provides beauty services, especially Makeup application. I am a travelling SoFlo Makeup Artist that primarily operates in Broward and Miami. What makes me different from other Makeup Artist would be artsiness and creativity. My initial experiences with blending was from actually drawing and painting. I really consider myself a creative because because of this. If i had to lay down my makeup brushes, I would still be an artist.

Every experience in this artistry as been has been a learning one. It took me a while to understand that being able to do makeup is completely different from running a makeup business. Initially, it was hard. I had to learn through it all, even my mistakes. I am not even where I want to be yet. If anything, this feels like the very beginning of growth. I’m still learning. I am still trying to explain and prove to clients everyday that that my prices are worth it. People forget that no matter what business you run, there is always a cost of production and preparation that goes towards the final product or service. So that’s the phase i am at right now. The phase of proving myself and prices worthy until I don’t have to do that anymore.

To any one it may concern, I just want to say, everything is a learning process. Slowly but surely. Discipline and dedication can take you beyond imagination and this goes for myself too. Also, I would like anyone reading this to know that I love being paid for my worth as much as I love doing makeup.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmmm… I really just recently started exploring the city so I will try my best to give the best spots i know from my mini experience so far. If my best friend visited for a week, On a monday, i’d recommend going sight seeing in general. Maybe a casual tour of the city— 78% not the type of person to want to go anywhere anyday, let alone a monday by the way. The beach is always a move since we are so surrounded by many water bodies and i actually like spending my time by them. Not in them!— by them. On Tuesday, I say the office only because its the office and they have happy hour on tuesdays. On wednesday, i think i would be craving some seafood boil at this point, so Sister Saras or Crafty Crab. Thursday, I am staying home. Friday night, nothing serious, Wynwood for certain— Maybe Dunkanoo or Shotz!. On Saturday, we can go to one of the many museums, then house of mac and many other food places. At night, Ghost Bar? Sunday, I’m sleeping in and would only like to be woken up for some icecream at Sloans or Seafood boil.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely! I have been lucky enough to be surrounded but genuine people who always want to see me grow. All my people have been fully helpful on this journey so I am grateful for that. First of all, Shout out to Voyage for giving me this platform again! Also, I would like to shoutout Kemi Adelakun of TiAde Styles ( Broward Braider/Hairstylist) for the specific reason of convincing me to start my makeup page in 2017 because that was really what kicked off the branding– very minor step but yet major impact. I would like to shout out my Mother, Erelu Tosin Egberongbe of Araoge African Headwraps, she was always readily my canvas even when I had no idea what I was doing. Shout out my very wonderful friend, Alexandre Torres, CEO of Gifted Grads (nonprofit organization that caters to highschool seniors during college admission process) for mentioning my name in rooms of opportunities and being very supportive of me— and other amazing black creatives. Shout out to many other boss women around me, thanks for the motivation!
Shout out to all my friends who just root for me like BMU is theirs. I am appreciative to the clients who keep coming back. I could go on and on with the names but you guys don’t have enough character space for that lol
