We had the good fortune of connecting with Temitayo Oluyege and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Temitayo, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Fashion has always been a core passion of mine. This entrepreneurial spirit, fostered by my parents’ small business ventures, fueled my drive to pursue my creative fashion design skills, eventually morphing into a whole business helping Nigerians all over the world look ,feel and be their best selves through fashion.

What should our readers know about your business?
May Coutures is more than just a menswear brand; we’re a one-stop shop for men’s clothing and accessories, offering bespoke and ready-to-wear options.

We prioritize quality, affordability, and convenience, ensuring you look sharp for any occasion.

We differentiate ourselves in the following ways:
1. Sustainable Practices: We upcycle waste fabrics into beautiful garments and accessories, minimizing our environmental footprint.
2. Diaspora Connection: We help Africans abroad stay connected to their roots by offering unique African-inspired pieces.
3. Empowerment: We’re passionate about empowering people through fashion and entrepreneurship skills.

Our journey wasn’t easy. We started small, focusing on accessories, and gradually evolved into a full-fledged menswear brand. Throughout this journey, we’ve stayed true to our brand identity, remained consistent in our quality and service, and persevered through challenges, especially Nigeria’s unique economic landscape.

This resilience, along with hard work, dedication to detail, and exceptional customer service, has been instrumental in our success.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
While I like to have fun, I don’t go out that much, but I do have some places I can count on for a good time.

The Filmhouse Cinemas are a great choice for movies.

For my foodies, we’d have a buffet at Ibachi restaurant, eat sea foods, have buffet at Bon Hotel and GoldeN Tulip.

Go to Martha’s kitchen for more nice meals.

We’d visit Agodi Gardens and have a boat cruise and picnic. We’d visit the Odunlade Art Gallery to see beautiful works of art.

On the last night, we’d sing Karaoke and have drinks at the Tamberma restaurant.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Business success is always a team sport. It’s never a one-man game, and I am grateful to have been blessed to have the best, kindest, most talented and generous people in my corner.
