We had the good fortune of connecting with Terrell McGill and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Terrell, how do you think about risk?
Risk taking is everything to me! I love a good challenge it’s what builds character. A great friend of mine told me long ago that successful businessmen take risks… I live by that! I’m always challenging myself thinking of new ideas to take my business to the next level, and I’m not afraid of stepping out there on my own if need be! I’ve always been the one to think outside the box, and create my own lane. So building a business from the bottom up, and I mean LITERALLY out the mud… There’s nothing more riskier, and rewarding than that!
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from others is consistency. There’s a standard here at RACKZ BBQ and we never deter from it! The excitement and proud moments for me come when the people come back in tell me how great the food was! To see the reactions on their faces after trying those ribs is definitely a win! And that’s how I got to where I’m at in the business… You see, I never worried about the money because I was too busy focusing on the product and the people. If you get those two things right everything else will fall into place. It wasn’t easy tho, as anything worth having never is. I went through it all to get here, even had setbacks during the pandemic like my other brothers and sisters in the restaurant business. I overcame them by staying focused on my goals and what I’m trying to accomplish. It’s not at all a simple feat, but I’ve learned that remaining focused now will get you to where you need to be later. You gotta go through it to get to it! All in all I want the world to know that this isn’t the end of the road for us as I plan on taking the business to new heights in 2022 and beyond! Also know that RACKZ BBQ is a machine! Built by a hardworking general who kicked, scratched, and clawed his way to get to this point… We’re here to takeover the BBQ scene in Florida and the U.S!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I mean the first place to eat is RACKZ BBQ of course lol! But after that I’d have to take them by Crabman305, VYBE305, and they would also have to check out The Krazy Vegan for those sliders! If we’re hanging out it’ll be at Studio 183, but we can’t go there without visiting The House Of Drip to get an outfit for the night! My guy Nate will take care of you! I’m a local guy myself but there are plenty other spots to go to… Like Da Cave, or Signature lounge if you’re into cigars, even the beach is fun. But you have cap off the night at Jamaica House for food since they’re open for 24 hours everyday.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Simply put… EVERYONE! The love I got from all of the people when I started this journey long ago has been nothing short of amazing! My family has been there through the entire journey and no one has been more solid than that bunch there! They step in whenever I need a helping hand without question! From my LSU family to the Arena Ball family, and of course my family from “Da Crib”(South Fla) I’ve been loved and supported by everyone! I want you all to know that I’m eternally thankful!
