We had the good fortune of connecting with Tessa Carro and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tessa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I’ve always been a firm believer that life is too short to not do something that excites you. There have been various moments throughout my traditional career where I’ve felt it was necessary to take a risk and pursue passions. I left my first agency job after four and a half years without much of a plan. But I found very quickly that it lit a fire under me to discover what is was that I wanted to do. I continued to build out my platform and launched a new career as a freelance talent manager. I learned so much through that experience which ultimately led me to my next position leading influencer strategy at Anheuser-Busch. Fast forward a couple years and I’ve found myself taking another risk and launching my own luxury travel career. Combining my two passions, food and travel felt like a natural next step to get closer to my “dream job.” So after seven and a half years of traditional marketing work, and many risks later I’m running my own business. I can confidently say that without taking these risks along the way I wouldn’t be here.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my food account with a friend at the end of College. It was something that seemed natural as we were obsessed with food, cooking, trying new restaurants and travel. It then turned into a mini business, dining at restaurants and doing photoshoots. Cooking and styling food was always my favorite because it combined my passions for cooking and photography in one. It became challenging to maintain growth of the account and get out as much as we wanted with a full time job. @put_a_fork_in_it took a little hiatus as my professional career took center stage. But this past year I left my corporate job to go on a 4 month world tour and it felt like the perfect time to revitalize @put_a_fork_in_it. It felt so nice to have a creative outlet back and see how many people still loved the account. I’ve since launched my luxury travel business and my goal is to curate luxury trips with gourmet destinations/experiences in mind. Marrying the two feels like a no brainer. But of course, with all of the new platforms and algorithm changes I didn’t return to the same engagement I once saw. I look at this as a fun and exciting challenge to create new forms of content and rebuild.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting Miami I’d do the below! – Eat at: Mandolin, Maty’s Miami, Luca Osteria, Zitzsum
-Stay The standard, or if we’re splurging Four Seasons Surf Club
-Drink: at Mila downstairs for a fun night out, Layla Miami Beach
-hit Soho beach house for a nice day at the beach

I always get my Miami recs from the Instagram account @milkanduni, they don’t miss!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a big shoutout to one of my first mentors, Ambika Makin. She took me under her wing early on at my first agency job and advocated for me every step of the way. It’s a really fast paced environment with long hours and easy to slip through the cracks. She looked at me as an equal, taught me so much and helped me move my career forward.
