We had the good fortune of connecting with There She Is Art and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi There She Is, how do you define success?
To define success, especially in your creative endeavors is difficult. Most artists don’t start a creative path because they are looking for traditional success, they do so because it’s a necessary outlet. Whatever the reason, finding success as an artist can take a lot of redefining what that means. For me, any part that brings some kind of gratification along the way is a success. Sometimes it comes from someone else enjoying a piece of art that I created that speaks to them on a personal level. Other times it’s when I complete a work of art I enjoy looking at myself. I am after all my own worst critic. And maybe that great work was just a one off created to put up in the streets and it gets buffed the next day and only I saw it..well, it’s still a success in my book. Sure, I work towards the day when creating art can offer more financial success, but even that is hard to define.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Art has been a part of my life since I was a small child. It’s something I’ve always done. When I started creating street art with You Killed Me First (who I initially had met to write music with) that was when I really started thinking of myself as an artist. Maybe it was the dialog I was able to have on the streets with other artists that helped push me to create more. Street art became an obsession. As a painter it was always hard to keep up with other street art which was prints and stencils.. But it also allowed me a chance to paint everything. I found subjects I gravitated to and found myself not only putting these on paper for the streets but on canvas. Recently I’ve been dabbling in assemblage. Creating little store fronts both for the street and for the gallery.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely if you are in Las Vegas and creatively inclined, you MUST head to the 18b Art District. This growing community features lots of murals, art galleries, breweries, coffee houses, vintage stores and more!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
You Killed Me First! He is my art partner, my street art runner, and my muse. Together we started creating street art in 2010 in LA and as our love as grown so have we both as artists. He continues to challenge me, support me and create art with me.
