We had the good fortune of connecting with Tianna Guy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tianna, how do you think about risk?
Initially I avoided risks at all cost. Since I am a huge perfectionist, it I felt like I wouldn’t execute something in the most perfect manner I’ll shy away from it.

Through me becoming an athlete (Elite International Boxer) and business owner I realized that risks are crucial to development. Risks doesn’t always mean you’ll be successful but one thing that is guaranteed is lessons. You will learn, then that situation another time around would seem even less riskier. Due to the fact that you’ve learned from your unsuccessful risk.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an Elite International Boxer in the featherweight division (57kg, 125lbs) I’m ranked 20th in the world. I think what set me apart from others wasn’t my talent, I wasn’t the most talented coming into the sport, but my dedication and commitment set me apart from the masses.

I dedicated myself 100% to my goal to become the first Female Olympic Boxer for Trinidad and Tobago. It is not easy, there’s the battle when it comes to funding, marketing and all the other factors that goes into being an elite athlete.
Through taking risks and learning as I go, it has helped me to see the beauty in the struggle and the journey.
It helps me stay grounded and steer the course.

The main lesson I have learned is the competition isn’t with anyone else but yourself. Yes, even though you’re competing against someone, it still comes down to you. The results are dependent on what you do or don’t do. It still comes down to how well you understand yourself, to be able execute the correct tactics based on your strengths and weakness.

I want the world to know that the stuff that are being said isn’t cliche. Trust yourself, trust the process and trust that you’re always in the right place at the right time, regardless if it doesn’t look like that.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
