We had the good fortune of connecting with Tiffany Gillespie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tiffany, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Over the past 10 years I have learned the importance of integration. When I started my business, I would always talk about and strive for balance, but when I began to understand the definition of balance, I realized that it was impossible to achieve. Work-life integration was a better concept and goal. Balance means that everything in your life must have equal weight at the same time, all the time. And that is just unrealistic, especially as an entrepreneur in the beginning stages of business ownership. Integration is more about making the various parts of real-life work together, so that you have all that you need in any given moment.

When I started my business, all I did was work. I would sit in front of my computer for hours, learning various things about business ownership and my area of expertise. That led to an unhealthy relationship with my business. I began to put business over friends, family, and even personal time. I was very tired all the time, and the lack of healthy work-life integration exasperated health challenges, including the symptoms of my brain condition. Now, I am very intentional about compartmentalizing and the first key to healthy work life integration for me is being present in every moment. If I am spending time with family, I am not worried about, or focused on, work. If I am working, then I must put my phone on Do Not Disturb so that I am not distracted by conversations with family or friends. If I am doing ministry work, again, I am not distracted by other things because I am present in that moment. Being present in each moment and eliminating distractions, has helped me to have magnificent work-life integration, and to live out the lessons that I have learned about it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
T3 Diversity Solutions, LLC is a management consulting firm that provides women and minority owned businesses with the consulting, access, and support needed to successfully navigate the global marketplace and position their companies for accelerated financial growth, especially in industries where gender & racial diversity is lacking.

I have made it this far in business by faith and through much discipline and consistency. It has not been an easy journey as I have faced many personal and professional challenges in business. I overcame these challenges through a lot of prayer, support of those close to me, and determination to get back up every time. I am a true warrior and I am purpose driven. As a result, I cannot stay down. I have endured brain surgery, tragic loss of loved ones, major financial challenges, and more yet I am still standing! Though this has not been an easy journey, I am grateful for each day of it. It has made me a better person and leader. Every day has truly been better than the day before it!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I recently relocated to Raleigh, NC so it would be an exploration for both of us. I would definitely hit up North Hills for good food and upscale night life experience. I would go to Morgan Street Food Hall to indulge in as much as we could eat. I would make sure we hit up a local festival and/or farmers market. Glenwood Ave is a must for some great bar hopping.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank every family member and friend who has supported me in this 10 year journey. If you have prayed, showed up, worked an event, shared about my business, offered words of encouragement, purchased a product, or utilized any of my services, I appreciate you. I would not be here without my village.
