We had the good fortune of connecting with Timothy Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Timothy, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea of Time to Ball first started back in 2017 when I was in the process of planning my summer before going to college.
I wanted to have a summer job that would give me a purpose. I was brainstorming in one of my classes my senior year after my last high school basketball season and the idea popped in my head to create a travel basketball team.
This travel team would only be based on players didn’t play on their high school team.
I was inspired by my close friends that loved the sport as much as I did but weren’t “good” enough for a high school basketball team.
Our mission quickly became to give opportunities to players who didn’t get a chance to play basketball in an organized team. I was on my high school basketball team and played for multiple travel teams throughout my basketball career but I was one of the few . I wanted to give the same opportunities I received to players that never got the chance.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Time to Ball, is a basketball program designed to provide the opportunity to young adults to reach their goal of playing collegiate basketball.
Our program is unique because we genuinely embody what a student-athlete life is like.
We give the players the daily life of a college athlete before they even get to college.
This philosophy helps the players be the most prepared once they go to the college level.
We are most proud of the players that have trusted us and stuck with the program to get them committed to colleges all over the country on academic and athletic scholarships.
We are most excited about the more lives we will change!
The way we got to where we are was a simple daily grind. Always thinking about how we can improve as a business and cater to what basketball players are looking for to help them reach their goals.
At first, it wasn’t easy. When we started Time to Ball I was only 17 years old and we had to learn everything scratch.
What helps make the team more efficient? How do you promote your program? etc.
We had to learn all these things through experience, research, and connecting with people who have already been at higher levels of coaching and business control.
We learned many lessons through the years, business-wise and working with others.
What makes an efficient team is our main focus on and off the court. We have grown tremendously from where we started, but we are not done growing!
Time to Ball represents mindset of giving everything you got to reach your goals no matter how big or small!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
What have been very blessed to have immense support and respect from day one by our players, staff, and my family.
Without my family, I wouldn’t have the moral support to keep grinding every single day.
Without my staff, I wouldn’t be able to come up with new ideas to help guide the lives of young adults.
Without the players, I wouldn’t have any reason to strive for more. They encourage, motivate, and help me become a better coach, mentor, and person.
Many people to thank, but these groups are a part of the Time to Ball Family for life!
We have had multiple players and staff throughout the four years of the program,
A person that deserves a special shout-out is co-founder of Time to Ball and my girlfriend Annahy Salas. She has been here since the beginning, we have built this program together, and no matter what, she has always been there to teach, give feedback, and help our program and players grow. She is the glue that keeps TTB together.
