We had the good fortune of connecting with Tina DeJesus and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tina, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance is something I strive for daily, which doesn’t come easy for an entrepreneur. In the beginning years of starting my business balance came in the form of balancing out all different aspects of my business, with little to no thought of my own self care + social life. Those first four years I spent every moment I had either cooking, promoting, learning, or planning my next stage. I missed out on a lot of big social event for my family and friends. In recent years I have learned the importance of spending time with loved ones, now I create a schedule around my social life. I schedule in my planned events, typically larger functions like weddings, showers, graduations and immediately block those dates out. I now only take on work that fills in my days around the time I spend with my loved ones. I think of balance as making sure I am taking care of myself first then my business and it will always be something that needs work.
What should our readers know about your business?
For the past eight years Chef Tina DeJesus has been working as a high-end private chef in the Hamptons, hosting yoga retreats, doing meal preparation, & teaching cooking classes. Chef Tina was formally trained at Le Cordon Bleu where she learned the art of French cuisine. Right after graduating she worked in a fine dining seafood restaurant gaining experience as a line cook. From there her career led her to catering large events & intimate dinner parties. While she followed her passion as a cook Chef Tina also split her time with working as a lead server, bartender, & Maître D making her the perfect host. Spending over ten years working in hospitality lead Tina to living an unhealthy lifestyle of late nights followed by sleeping all day and repeating the same cycle. She decided to change her way of living in 2013, where she dove into all thing’s vegetarian, nutrition, mental health, and yoga. Which lead her to creating VegHead Chef where she now creates seasonal plant-based meals that are suited to fit any lifestyle, dietary restriction, & unique preferences. All the while keeping it nutritious and simple!
Recently Tina has teamed up with Chef Julia to create The Health Chefs LLC. Which was created by two private chefs that are passionate about providing sustainable and health supportive meals for our clients. Health Chef’s mission is to provide support within our community of chefs to ensure we all exceed. Our team carefully selects chefs to pair with each client to provide a perfect match for creating a unique experience. We have 20 + chefs in NYC, Miami, and The Hamptons working together to bring health-supportive meals to our clients and helping create healthy habits.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Food of course! I would show them all the best little spots to eat throughout Miami. There is no better way to learn about the place you are visiting then through food.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Marina Stenson, another private chef that has become a support system within a world of chaos.
