We had the good fortune of connecting with Grace Titilayo Ojewole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Grace, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I chose music as my career path because music just seemed to always find me. Ever since I was a little girl, because I was raised in the church atmosphere. I grew up singing in the church choir, even though I didn’t want to sing in front of everyone due me being shy. I really appreciate those moments which played a huge part, in shaping me into the artist I am today. My father is a preacher and he started his church from the ground up with no affiliation. I grew up watching my father be a leader and inspire people to change their lives for the good. I’ve always wanted to inspire people through my music, with inspiring lyrics that can help a person with whatever they’re going through.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m an afrobeat/ hip hop female rapper from Oakland California. So you can hear the best of both worlds when I rap. Growing up I listened to Bay Area rappers like Mac Dre, E-40, Keak da Sneak, and Too Short. They all had a unique Bay Area flow that really stood out amongst the rest of the Bay Area Rappers. At every function in the Bay if you didn’t hear one of the names I just mentioned at the party then most likely that party was weak lol.

I got to where I’m at professionally with alot of dedication, confidence, and hard work. Nothing of the magnitude that I want in success comes easy. You have to put in the work to get the results that you’re looking for.

I overcame those challenges with perseverance and determination, not everyone’s going to like your music but it takes for the right person to hear it and like it for everything in your life to change.

Many lessons that I’ve learned along the way throughout my journey in music, is to always be true to who you are. Not everyone is going to understand you or your music but if you genuinely feel good about what you’re putting out into to the world that’s all that matters.

I want the world to know that I hope to continue bless this Earth with amazing music and I hope to inspire the next generation after me to not give up on their dreams no matter what people tell you. Haters will always hate. I also hope to change and save a lot of peoples lives with my lyrics, especially people that experience a lot of mental health issues. Because depression is not fun, and it’s okay to talk to someone about what you’re going through. I hope my music makes people feel good and know that no matter what you’re going through everything will be okay and God ain’t through with you yet.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Los Angeles there’s so many exciting places to check out. The weather is always great and it’s never to cold to hit the beach or a bar by the beach. There’s so many beaches to choose from but I enjoy the less crowded beaches in the outskirts of LA. I also really enjoy museums because I feel as though that plays a huge part in my creativity. The nightlife is never tiring because there’s always an event every night in LA. You can never get bored of this city. There’s so many things to do on a daily basis.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Everyone has someone that inspired them to pursue what they love and for myself I have a lot of inspirations. There’s a lot of artists and as well as entrepreneurs that I’ve always looked up to that inspired me to become the artist that I am today. My biggest inspiration is my father because as I stated earlier he’s a preacher and started his church from the ground up with no affiliation. Watching my father be a leader inspired myself to always want to be a leader and be the CEO of my own life. An artist that really inspires me is Nicki Minaj she really changed the game for female rap, and she paved the way for many female rappers like myself to have a voice like we do today. Her story is so inspiring and motivated me to never give up on my dreams, goals, and aspirations even when times get hard. I also respect the fact that she always writes her own music and she always says that it’s important that she does. Which is why I respect her so much and she continues to inspire me daily. Another female rapper that inspired me to rap is Foxy Brown. She paved the way for Nubian Queens like myself to have a career in this industry. Her charisma mixed with her rhymes are so inspiring, and I love how she writes her own raps as well. Both Foxy and Nicki are from Trinidad and Tobago, and they were able to represent their country and become a huge role model to young women that don’t think they have the opportunity to make it. That’s so inspiring because I’m from Nigeria, and growing up I always had big dreams of pursuing big things but always doubted myself. Both of their stories always inspired me to keep going, and always remind me that the sky is the limit.
