We had the good fortune of connecting with Tony Rodriguez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tony, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The amount of work that goes on behind the scenes. The prospecting for new client business. For our buyers. we schedule inspections, coordinating with appraisers, lenders, and title companies. We usually work weekends and evening, spending time away from our families. We can work with a buyer for weeks taking them around to see properties. For our sellers, we pay for photography and marketing out of our own pocket People think it is just a matter of listing a property for sale and letting it sell or taking people around to show them houses and open doors. They don’t realize that as realtors, we do not receive a regular paycheck. We only make money when we are able to help our client purchase or sell their home.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In my previous career, I was in what I called corporate America. I picked up several disciplines and best practices from that world which helped me tremendously when I made the switch to becoming a realtor.
When I started working as a realtor, I came in with the expectation that all agents would have that same level of professionalism, follow up, and be somewhat knowledgable. I was in for a big surprise. It was shocking to me the amount of agents that refuse to answer their phone and others that would rather just text, but then they never respond after the initial text. Agents that knew very little about the property they were selling or the poor job they did by not filling in all the information about the listing, leaving many buyers with questions about that property. I had to learn how to overcome this by providing the best customer service to my client. I felt in order to serve my clients best, I needed to become an expert in the real estate field. To this day, I continue to take courses to further my knowledge. I want my clients to feel confident that I am the best realtor for them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think the majority of people that come to visit want to go to the beach. South Florida has a lot of great beaches to choose from. South Beach, Fort Lauderdale Beach, Hollywood beach to name a few. For dining and drinks, Las Olas. This area has a lot great restaurants and bars to go hang out. Maybe go to the Brickell area or Bayside. Ocean Drive has some great places to hang out as well.. Maybe catch an airboat ride out in the Everglades. There is so much to choose from.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout goes to my parents. They instilled in me the vision to alway work to succeed. To always do my best at anything I do and to make it a habit of always trying my best. To think outside of the box and learn to figure things and solve problems on my own.
Along the way, I read several books that helped me change the way I think for the better. “How Win Friends and Influence People”. “What Got You Here, Won’t Get You There”, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” and “Who Moved My Cheese” were some of the books that help me to further grow as a person.
