Meet Tori Sikkema | Interiors | Brand Photographer + Stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tori Sikkema and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tori, how do you think about risk?
My father was a risk taker. He worked in advertising at Conde Nast as the Advertising Director for House & Garden Magazine. I loved being on location during interior photoshoots; seeing the flurry of interior designers, stylists, photographers, and architects collaborating on preparing the home for the photoshoot and publication was like being on the set of a movie. These experiences are imprinted in my DNA and have ever influenced me.

I am also a risk taker, leaving my full-time gig to start a photography business three years ago. Being a creative entrepreneur is like jumping into a cold pool: the first few moments, it’s so cold that you wonder why you jumped, but then your body acclimates to the temperature! It means getting out of your comfort zone.

Being an entrepreneur is not for the faint of heart, but the rewards are divine! Leaving a salary and a 9 to 5 takes discipline over managing your time, productivity, and money! I highly recommend it!

My greatest reward as an interiors | brand photographer is being poised to help others with my 20+ years of marketing expertise to get seen and published!

What should our readers know about your business?
In addition to being a published interior and brand photographer, I’m a beach loving mom of two humans, public speaker and business coach and mentor to other creative entrepreneurs. I just launched a podcast, Brand Lift, and love ending my day with an occasional martini!

Tori Sikkema Photography is run by myself, and a small team of talented people, including my son, Grant, who interned for me this summer.

My clients range from creative entrepreneurs and interior designers to small business owners (architects, builders, professionals) who have design projects they want professionally documented for their portfolios, websites, social media, and editorial submissions to publishers.

I capture you in your creative spaces and places!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

My best friend Karry and I would arrive on Friday afternoon, check into 1 Hotel South Beach, and chill at the pool.

Throughout the week, we would enjoy:

Morning coffee at Shepherd Artisan Coffee and stroll down the drive to enjoy the neon lights at night!

Since it’s a girl’s trip, Girls scheduling time to relax and enjoy a spa | pool day at 1 Hotel South Beach is a must; maybe in a private cabana.

I love Sunday brunch, and one of my favorite places in Fontana at The Biltmore. For balance, we will also visit Sugar, Miami’s must, for their rooftop lounge.

Florida is lush, green, and tropical, so touring the everglades is an immersive and worthwhile experience.

No photographer would miss a trip to Wynwood Walls, taking photos of the incredible art, and maybe a mini brand shoot; you never know! Also, an afternoon at Vizcaya with the audio tour of the history
and catching sunset in Key Biscayne or Sunset Point.

For nightlife and a taste of Little Havana, we would stop at Pinolandia Fritanga, which is open late!
