We had the good fortune of connecting with Trenisha Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Trenisha, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
Learning when to give up or keep going is not an easy decision, but sometimes it is necessary for evolution into other aspects of life. When you are faced with a challenge, take a step back and do some self-reflection. Are your goals, passions, or motivations still the same? What are the pros and cons? Why do you want to give up? Is it still worth the time and continued effort? After you have answered these questions, trust your gut. You are the only person who truly knows what this goal means to you. If you are passionate and believe in what you are doing, don’t give up easily. However, if you are not seeing any progress despite your efforts, then you may need to reassess and readjust.

If you answer these questions and find that you are still confused, then consider seeking advice or support from a mentor or someone you respect. The situation may appear different from the outside, and it is always helpful to have a fresh perspective.

Also, you may need to shift your mindset because giving up doesn’t always equate to failure. Giving up could be the next step toward redirection toward more fulfilling goals in life.

Ultimately, the decision is up to you, but, remember that there is no shame in admitting defeat and moving on to something new.

What should our readers know about your business?
My name is Dr. Trenisha Smith, a board-certified Optometrist in Davie, Fl. I am also the owner of Caicos Vision eyewear and accessories. Caicos Vision Eyewear was inspired by my hometown, Turks & Caicos Islands. The vibrant colors and neutral undertones perfectly embody the essence of my island home.

Although the road to success was far from simple, the difficulties somehow enhanced the reward. Hard work and consistency have always been crucial in my life. It can be challenging to maintain motivation, which is why it is bad to rely solely on motivation to accomplish your goals. Find your purpose, create a plan, and then follow it. I know it is easier said than done, but once you get into the momentum, things start to get easier, day by day.

The biggest lesson I have learned along the way, is to trust your voice. At times we let the judgments of others influence what we do or the risks we take. You may need to take some chances to pursue your aspirations, but regrets are the last thing you want. Regrets can leave you feeling defeated and depleted.

Following your dreams is one of the most fulfilling paths you can take in life. It may not always be easy, but as the saying goes, “If your dreams don’t scare you, they’re not big enough”. Time will pass you by regardless, so use the time to pursue your passions and interests.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
South Florida is an amazing area with a plethora of things to do for all ages and interests. There are so many exciting places to visit that even one week might not be enough to truly have the ultimate South Florida experience. But if I had to choose, I would take my best friend to Wynwood Walls first. It is an outdoor street art museum that features large murals and installations from artists around the world. Additionally, there is a wide variety of food and drink places along this strip, which makes it perfect for a day trip. For lunch, we could hit up my absolute favorite spot, Shooters Waterfront, where the views are gorgeous and the food is delectable. Another good option is to lounge by the beach, soak up the sun, or take a swim. As the sun sets, we could head by the popular, Jaya at The Setai. From mouth-watering food and drinks to luxurious ambiance and live performances, The Jaya has everything you need for an unforgettable time. No matter what we decide to do, South Florida never disappoints; every experience will be memorable.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout will go to my biggest supporters, my family, and my friends.  I cannot express how grateful I am for their unwavering support throughout my life. I feel fortunate to have each of you in my life because your support and love have been a constant source of strength for me. Whether it’s a kind word, a listening ear, or a helping hand, you always showed up for me when I needed it the most. I appreciate your willingness to go above and beyond to support me, and I want you to know that your efforts did not go unnoticed. I appreciate you all supporting me through the good times and bad; I am genuinely fortunate to have you all on my side.
