We had the good fortune of connecting with Tristine Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tristine, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started my business 17 years ago in hopes to make as many women as possible feel beautiful and sexy. In the beginning I only photographed women. I have since added children and families as well as underwater. Photographing women in my studio and underwater will always be my first love. I added underwater photography to my business 7 years ago and it was the best decision I have made. I truly love the water and the art my clients and I create together. I have always believed capturing memories is so important. I love what I do and I love sharing my passion with my clients.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
There are a few things that I am proud of that I have accomplished! Since the day I started shooting, I wanted to shoot with and learn from a Playboy photographer. I was able to do that years ago with Lou Freeman and can now proudly call her my friend. I have been published and have won awards for my work and have also been lucky enough to have my art hung in galleries as well.
There are always challenges in life and honestly, I can say that most of the challenges I have faced while being in business, I have been able to learn and grow from with the help of my photography community and friends. It’s not always easy to run a business but I am so grateful I get to do so.
There are so many lessons to learn when dealing with people and I try and face them with an open mind and understanding. The one lesson that I think is so important is having patience. You never know what someone is going through and sometimes you just need to take a step back and breathe.
I want the world to understand how important photography is. You never know what can happen. When my dad passed 8 years ago, I realized when looking for pictures of him for the funeral that there were so few of he, my brothers and myself all together. It was hard when we realized we didn’t have those captured memories. My brothers both said that they now understood how important it is to do family photos to preserve those memories, because you never know. Capturing who you are now is important, it is a way to look back and remember that time in your life no matter what it is.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite places would have to be the beach, the springs and some of my favorite dive spots. Favorite restaurants are Castaways and Lures both in Jensen Beach. I’m typically hanging out at the beach or inter-coastal fishing. There are some cool downtown areas that are fun in Jensen Beach and Stuart as well. Another place I like is Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center in Stuart, it’s a great place to learn about the ocean and the animals in it.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to thank my friends, clients, and family who love and supported me. I also want to thank all the amazing photographers in my life that constantly challenge me and encourage me to grow. I have a great community of photographer friends that on a daily basis inspire me. Without all of them I don’t think I would be the photographer I am today, I have had some amazing photographers in my life and I am so grateful for all of them.
