Meet Troy Spry | Certified Dating and Relationship Coach, Speaker, and Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Troy Spry and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Troy, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My mission is based around people first becoming better people so that they become better mates, thus creating better relationships and ultimately build better communities. I believe that the cornerstone to healthy communities is rooted in our ability to build strong and healthy relationships and family units. This is why I am so passionate about my work and the content I create. Through my content, coaching, speaking, and books I communicate the skills needed to build healthy relationships and I help to identify the realities of building a life with someone else. By keeping it entertaining an unbiased I believe I am helping people unlearn toxic and unhealthy relationship patterns and expectations and helping them relearn relationship healthy skills. This will impact this world far beyond my existence. By challenging the status quo and sometimes the generational curses I hope to change the world!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been writing and coaching about relationships for about 10 years now and I love every minute of it. I’ve sold thousands of books, I’ve written for big publications like BMWK, Jet Magazine, DatingAdvice.com, PaulCBrunshon.com, Digital Romance, and guest blogging for the Steve Harvey Act Like A Success Conference.
What set’s me apart is my ability to connect with people and engage people without being overly polarizing. I have an ability to challenge people without making them feel bad or small while also encouraging them to be a better version of themselves. I guess it’s the coach in me!
What I’m most proud of is the husband I’ve become and the Father I’m growing into. My career has helped me to grow and evolve as a mate and it’s improved my communication skills and emotional availability as a Father and spouse. In terms of professionally I’m super proud of being voted Writer of the Year for Black and Married With Kids because it was at the moment that I realized how much of an impact I was having and that the people really cared about what I had to say and write.
Nothing has been easy because building a brand and a community takes a lot of intentional work and that takes a lot of intentional time. Furthermore to continue to evolve and be great at what you do it takes consistent self-development and openness to new ideas and ways of thinking. Another thing that can make what I do difficult is that for every person who wants new information there are also critics who feed off of negativity. Many people out there enjoy the art of trolling and because you are human sometimes that can get to you. What I had to learn was how to focus on the people who are actually open to being helped vs. fighting against the ones who aren’t. Where you spend your energy and who you spend your energy on will ultimately determine your level of impact.
What I want the world to know is that I genuinely care about the community and my brand is one that designed to have real impact vs. creating click bait. I love to see people have success in their dating and relationship lives and it does my heart good to see people evolve their thinking and seek to understand one another one post, video, book, or speech at a time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
It would have to be tailored based on the friend, but generally speaking I think good FOOD, good FAMILY, and good FUN. I love good food and craft cocktails but I like to do it on a budget so we would have to visit a nice restaurant during happy hour. I also love a good comedy show or sporting event and I love to end nights at a nice speak easy or cigar bar/lounge. Another option is to rent a boat on a Saturday and just ride on the lake for the day while enjoying good food, beverages, and fellowship. On the other hand also like to order in good chicken wings and play games of UNO or spades at the house. A good time is all about the people you’re with and the attitudes they have so in essence I can have fun anywhere if it’s the right people.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Ronnie and Lamar Tyler from Black and Married and Kids and TSP (Traffic, Sales, and Profit). They were the first to believe in me, my mission, and my writing and gave me a chance to write for their huge platform and expose my work to the world. They are amazing mentors as well as business people and they make a huge impact in the lives of many.
