We had the good fortune of connecting with Ty Rachell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ty, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I am thee biggest risk taker! I would like to say right from birth. Born at only a pound and a half, I risked my existence by consistently pulling the oxygen out of my nose, it must have been super uncomfortable. Today my risks are not as life threating perhaps, but definitely has propelled my life and career. In the corporate world I aligned my engineering background to accept an overseas position as a contractor for the U.S Air Force. I would call it a risk because no one in my family has ever lived in another country for business. As a creative I also risked the same lucrative corporate career to embark on my life’s passion in pursuit of the development of what is now Artist – Passion. Standing on my decisions of strategic risk taking has created a happy life for me.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
To be honest, I am still on my road to success. At age 24, I moved from my Baltimore, MD hometown to Tampa, FL and I began different freelance work in production back in 2015 as a Production Assistant for Gwendollhen Nanna of Tampa Modeling Institute and Art Director Leandro Gongora. This put me right in the action of everything production simply by me responding to a Craigslist Ad, yes I used to scroll through the list to find production work. After shadowing and being involved behind the scenes, I kept volunteering and going to different art and fashion events which led me to my first NYFW experience with DapperQ. I became a volunteer for DapperQ’s NYFW exhibit for STUZO a lifestyle brand. This really excited and inspired me to continue my path into production. It was not easy, especially without a standout mentor in my life.
The biggest challenge was being patient and understanding that – this was not going to be a hobby, this is my life and I had to become marketable. I began self educating and also took courses at Full Sail University to encourage the skill set that was developing in me. I understood that I love seeing production all the way through, and that was a feeling that I credit my engineering education from Morgan State University. I transformed my attention to detail asset and continued freelance work to include videography for sports broadcast company BallerTV. This was an amazing adventure and cultivated a lot of responsibility and independence for me.
Summing up all of these experiences I knew my purpose was greater. I wanted to create a path for others to express their creativity, so I recently developed Artist- Passion: A curation of underground artist and creatives who are bound to hit mainstream with their raw talent. The biggest message I want to convey to the world is be unapologetically YOU! Artist – Passion wants to help the world discover what makes you unique and how your passion will change the world for the better.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Ok, so my trip to the city would definitely be bohemian chic in nature with bikes included! Freehand Miami off Indian Creek Drive is an amazing Boutique Hotel that gives you a calm, bohemian respite for the week.
Definitely check out Red Rooster on NW Second Ave. I like the shrimp and grits and as a former bartender I would recommend any Dukes & Dames cocktail.
For a good walk check out a 25 – minute Historic Overtown tour – A Miami Pioneer Black Community, visit GoingOvertown.org.
The beach is always necessary, however so is Wet Willies you usually can leave out with your drink. (Insert wink)
For beauty enthusiast, get your lash, brow, nails, and feet catered to at Epic Nail Lounge. They are thee bomb dot com!
Last but not least shopping gets interesting at Brickell City Center. I have a few shops to highlight: Dr. Smood for vegan, gluten – free snacks, Apple if your phone mysteriously falls in your hotel toilet, Sephora for cool beauty products, and finally The Social Hub Miami if you want to experience a museum with staged themes for social media. Every experience here is different, so stay hydrated, stretch and get ready for fun explorations.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to Shoutout Eye Urban TV for allowing me to flow in creativity and develop what was in me all along. This is my creative family, this platform is where I will always credit my humble beginnings. I produce in Videography, Photography, Graphics, Website development and even hone in on marketing upgrades with Eye Urban TV. They absolutely know how to scale talent and business for everyone!
