We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler (Lowtyde) Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tyler (Lowtyde), what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I am pursuing an artistic career because art is woven into every fabric of life, and I feel like it’s one of the few things that can fulfill my soul and spirit. Art helps bring people together, tell stories, and help paint a sign of the times.

Art also serves as an outlet of expression, and I feel like it helps shape every day life. It’s a reciprocated process; Life informs art, and art informs life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My main medium is music. I rap, produce, and I also have been learning the trades of mixing and mastering. I’ve been writing music since I was about 11 or so, and I have been been passionate about writing since elementary school.

Music is so sacred to me because the art form carries a long tradition of story telling and expression. Music has the power to make you move, and music also has the power to make you cry. It is a universal language that we all speak.

I started making music as a way to express myself, and that’s still the case, but as I get older, I had to revaluate my “why” as times change and the music industry changes. The industry at large has turned pretty soulless and gutted, but that doesn’t mean that good music has gone away. Now more than ever, music (especially hip-hop) has turned into a cash grab, and has moved further away from the “source” and the ethos that started it all. This deterred me for a bit, but I found hope in the history of the many great artists who came before me.

My music comes from a place of love, and I write from personal experience. My goal now, with every track, is to deliver a feeling. My music tends to be introspective, but I’ve been practicing different styles and approaches to the song creating process. Execution is important, and I feel like, as long as you practice and get your reps in, you’ll grow and become the artist you want to be.

I am the most proud of all the art I’ve been working on and will be releasing throughout these upcoming months.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Ooooh this is tough, but I’ll
