We had the good fortune of connecting with Tyler Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tyler, how do you define success?
My idea of success revolves around satisfaction with one’s career and gratitude. For me success isn’t just about achievements, but more about finding fulfillment in the work I do every day and appreciating all the opportunities presented.
My goal is to reach a point in my music career where I have an extensive catalog of incredible records with incredible artists. I want to have made music of all genres that can resonate with all people. Overall, it is important to take pride in your work. I find it important to own all of your successes and your failures too.
But beyond the achievements, I think the journey is where the real beauty lies. The process of creating, collaborating, learning, and growing is invaluable. It’s in those moments of struggle, experimentation, and breakthrough that I find the most memorable. You can work for a lifetime but the celebration only lasts a few days. Progress is everything to me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I first took interest in music in middle school. I used to DJ electronic music in my room, and that soon became my main passion. Throughout high school, I started producing music and taking it seriously.
I had started a YouTube channel where I posted my beats. I remember in Junior year, I had my first big beat sale. I was sitting in class on my phone negotiating an exclusive sale to an artist for $200. That point was very memorable to me, as it felt like I had a direction to go in. Music was a hobby and passion to me, but I never imagined that I would pursue it full time. When I made that sale, it really felt possible for a 16 year old me.
As the years passed, I have a lot to be grateful for. I have worked with many artists who I had never thought I’d even come close to. Music has taken me around the country, introduced me to so many incredible close friends, and it has given me a purpose.
The most important lesson that I learned is to trust myself. There will always be people who take advantage of your trust, kindness, etc. Never rely on external validation. That ties back to satisfaction; as long as you are proud of yourself, you have nobody that you need to impress. Also, if you are doing what you love for a living, then remember that you are living a lifestyle that you 5 years ago could have only dreamt.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Two places that I love in Miami are Doggi’s Arepa Bar and Lagniappe Wine House.
Doggi’s Arepa Bar was introduced to me by another producer named “Product”. The food was incredible, they delivered authentic Venezuelan food with amazing flavors. My favorite dish was the patacon de churrasco.
Lagniappe is an incredible experience as well. They have
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my loving family. My two incredible parents have supported my career choice, which is more than I could ask for as a first generation kid. They are the first people I tell when I have good news. I am forever grateful to come from such a loving family, and I owe them everything.
I also want to shoutout my older sister. Growing up, she helped me see what it meant to be my own person. I credit some of my impulsiveness to her, as she was definitely an enabler throughout my childhood.
