We had the good fortune of connecting with Valeria Lasak and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Valeria, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When I decided to start my own business, my thought process was deeply influenced by a mix of personal experiences, challenges, and the realization of what truly mattered to me. Initially, working nonstop seemed like the only way to achieve success. However, a turning point came when my health took a hit due to overworking. This episode forced me to reevaluate my priorities and the unsustainable pace I was setting for myself.

Realizing the importance of health and balance, I saw an opportunity to create something that not only aligned with my professional skills and passions but also allowed me to live by the values I had come to hold dear—particularly the importance of wellbeing and creating a balanced life. The idea of being my own boss was appealing not just for the autonomy it promised but also for the potential to shape a business that reflected my newfound understanding of success.

I wanted to build a business that leveraged my expertise in digital marketing and my knack for connecting with communities, particularly in Miami, where I had started to put down roots. My experiences traveling and living in various countries had given me a unique perspective on culture, marketing, and community building, which I believed could be the foundation of a unique and impactful business.

Moreover, the challenges I faced, like dealing with difficult partnerships and navigating the complexities of work permits, taught me resilience and adaptability—qualities I knew would be invaluable in entrepreneurship. I saw starting my own business as a way to apply these lessons, offering services and creating content that resonated with people’s genuine interests and needs, while also ensuring I maintained the work-life balance critical to my health.

In essence, my thought process was driven by the desire to create a meaningful, sustainable business that not only capitalized on my professional strengths and personal passions but also embodied the lessons I had learned about health, balance, and the importance of nurturing both personal and community wellbeing

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

My main business is Nomad & Mkt Besties, a marketing agency focused on helping brands in fashion, beauty, and lifestyle stand out on their media. We’re all about being real and getting results. Alongside Nomad, I’m involved with New Miami Girls, a group where women in Miami can connect and support each other. It’s a project that means a lot to me because it builds community.

I also run “Who is She Miami,” where I interview women on the streets about their dreams and stories. It’s a way to spotlight the amazing women around us and share their inspirations with others.

Running these projects hasn’t been easy. Each one has its own challenges, like keeping true to what they’re about and handling the growth. But, I’ve learned a lot, especially about being flexible, the importance of support from others, and taking care of myself.

Through my work with Nomad, New Miami Girls, and “Who is She Miami,” I’ve seen that success is more than just business achievements. It’s about making an impact, staying true to what you believe, and supporting the community.

I want people to know my brands are about more than just work. They represent a way of life that values realness, community, and chasing dreams.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend from Peru was visiting Miami for a week, I’d make sure they got the full experience—blending the city’s vibrant culture, beautiful landscapes, and delicious cuisine. Here’s how we’d spend an unforgettable week:

Day 1: Sunrise and Speakeasies in Brickell

Start the day with an energizing walk around Brickell Bay to catch the beautiful sunrise over Miami’s skyline. It’s the perfect introduction to the city’s vibrant energy.
End the day exploring Brickell’s nightlife, especially a hidden speakeasy, where you can enjoy some of Miami’s most innovative cocktails.

Day 2: Serene Beach Day at Crandon Park
Head to Crandon Park Beach for a day of relaxation. Its stunning beauty and calmer vibes make it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle. Pack a picnic and enjoy the sun, sea, and sand.

Day 3: Adventure in Haulover Park

Venture to Haulover Park for a day of kayaking. It’s a fantastic way to connect with Miami’s natural side and maybe even spot some local wildlife, like manatees.

Day 4: Culinary Journey
Treat yourselves to an authentic Peruvian dinner at Manta, offering a taste of home with a Miami twist. The city’s diverse culinary scene is not to be missed, and Manta is a gem for Peruvian cuisine lovers.

Day 5: Biking to Miami Beach
Rent bikes and take a leisurely ride to Miami Beach. It’s a fun, active way to explore the scenic routes between Miami and the beach, soaking in the iconic views along the way.

Day 6: Elevated Views and Vibes
Spend your evening with rooftop drinks in Brickell, where you can catch breathtaking views of the city. It’s the perfect spot for memorable conversations and stunning photos.
