We had the good fortune of connecting with Valérie Engel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Valérie, what principle do you value most?
The best services to our customers! We are a local/neighborhood boutique and have the same customers coming each year. We want to make sure they get the best and most unique experience when shopping with us: From the music, to the perfume we spray, to the experience, a great selection, packaging etc…

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Roses and Dreams is a french boutique located in Miami Beach (south of fifth) for women, baby and kids. We select exclusive and different brands mostly from France, St Barths, USA etc… A selection for everyone. When opening the store was dedicated to women. Adding baby and kids clothes doubled our numbers as we are pretty much the only baby/kids boutique in South Beach. Thus, we have a wide range of customers: women, grand parents, moms, expecting moms, husbands, walk in customers etc.. We offer the best services to all our customers and try to do anything we can to make them happy. We are now open since 5 years. We received the award of best boutique in Miami Beach for 3 years in a row. Telling you it has been ”easy” would be a big lie..! Creating a business in a country which is not mine and start a new life alone was very challenging. Owning a business, having employees is also a big responsibility. Now, I am married I have a one year old, another baby on the way and I am beyond proud of all I have accomplished. I believe in following my dreams and I would recommend this challenge to anyone who feels like taking it! ‘Surviving” being closed during Covid was pretty challenging as well! We took a different approach to everything and decided to deliver our customers all over town, offer personal shopping which was a huge success and it is actually something we are now doing all year long! (We have been working on updating all our website, it will go live on september 1rst.)

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend for a walk in south pointe park and for lunch at Smith and Wollensky so she gets to see the pretty view and gets a feel of South of Fifth. Or, on the beach side of surfside and Bal harbor. It is very pretty! For lunch, at Makoto in Bal harbor mall. I also like to go to the Design District. I personally like outdoor restaurants so I would take her to Mandolin. Finally, I would take her to Palm Bach, it is only 1 hour from Miami but feels very different. Everything is so detailed and pretty! We would probably go for lunch at Saint Ambroeus and walk all around.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I could definitely give you a long list of inspirational authors I love but my biggest strength is my mom! She is the one who taught me everything. My husband is also very enthusiastic towards my business and loves to give all sort of new ideas! Finally, having great and motivated employees is a big help.
