We had the good fortune of connecting with Van-Adam “Kidd Adamz” Pierre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Van-Adam “Kidd Adamz”, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
I think reminding myself that things will be hard and the chances are highly against me and also being aware that none of that mattered as much as my drive and consistency. Giving up was always ruled out. In a way I forbade myself from ever dropping music, no matter what happened, so I only gave myself a few options to run with in the end. That decision to stick with the plan was definitely the most important contribution to my success.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an unconventional musical artist, not to say the way I make music is uncommon but I would say my process is definitely not your usual. And in doing that the product is usually something that seems similar in sound but the flavor is always different, regardless of the genre. I’m heavily influenced by different sounds & love to blend them together to make unique sounds not too familiar to the ear.
Currently, my most prideful achievement would have to be writing/producing an entire album of my own. When I sit and think back on it I tend to forget it’s still rare for artists to make their own production, and to have accomplished a successful project all with sounds I created is definitely amazing for me.
It was not an easy trip at all, the goods and bads balanced themselves out I would say, or maybe my optimism kept my dreams alive, regardless it definitely was not easy. From relationships, both business & personal, to missing out on new opportunities and potential business ventures that could have heavily impacted my career.
I think the most important lessons I’ve learned is yes, consistency & determination are important but also taking risks despite knowing the chances of failure. Being aware of how far you came from where you started, and also where you currently are. That awareness helped me maintain so much momentum and energy.
I think the biggest message I want to spread to the world is that we all can do something really great in our lifetime, it doesn’t matter what it is and it doesn’t matter what age you start, as long as you don’t stop. I always knew music was my passion and wanted to persue since I was young, but I also had dreams of playing football, and wanted to get into aviation school too. When I was young I never knew music would ultimately be what I chose to chase but the fact that it started with a dream and hobby meant that there was a journey, and I realized that. Once we know what our journey is we need to be able to chase that no matter how blurry the road is & no matter where we are in life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting for a few a week I’d probably take them to Wynwood first, usually is always a pretty relaxed area. We could stop and grab a bite at Coyo Taco, their food is pretty good. Next we could maybe head to one of the beaches, South Beach is the hotspot sometimes but I like Hollywood Beach & Ft. Lauderdale Beach it’s more relaxed out there.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think there’s alot of people who deserve a shout out for sure: First & foremost shout out to the Most High and my parents, I believe the way I was raised definitely is the one of the key ingredients to my success. Then here’s shout outs to a few of the people who really gave me motivation coming up: P, Spitta, Fresha, Chedda, & Juju. Definitely would say they deserve major credit as well.
