We had the good fortune of connecting with Vane Gordillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Vane, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?

Work life balance is very important to me. It can’t be all work and no play or vice versa. Though many say that true balance is B.S. and impossible, I believe that it’s a dance. Sometimes the scale leans a bit more towards work and other times towards life. The key is not to allow it to tip completely in one direction. It’s a give and take. For me, I try to keep a healthy work load to allow for time with my family. Over time this has changed as my family dynamics have changed. I am a newer mom and experiencing my daughter grow is very important to me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

I am a self taught baker, inspired by my grandmother’s amazing flan recipe. I was at a comfortable corporate job that was draining all the happy out of me. Baking and making people happy through my desserts, brings me joy. So I decided to leave my corporate job and do something that would make me happy. It was a very tough decision but I’m so happy with my choice. My brand and my business is rooted in family. My grandmother’s legacy and building something for my daughter.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I love the FL Keys so we’d definitely take a trip down to Key Largo and spend a day or two by a pool and the ocean. I love eating the fresh seafood in the Keys. Other fun spots are the Gables and Merrick Park, especially during the holidays. So many great restaurants, it’s tough to pick a favorite .. ok ok, Hillstone! Yum!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

I would love to Shoutout Luly B. and the amazing ladies of the BOOST community. Luly helped me launch my business and has been a big supporter of mine since the very beginning. My accountability partners Natasha & Katie were also instrumental to helping me confidently step into entrepreneurship. And of course my family and friends who have been a huge support to me and my business.
