We had the good fortune of connecting with Victoria de la torre and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Victoria, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I decided to embark on the journey of starting my own business that would focus on creating innovative products using Yerba mate as the main ingredient. With a passion for entrepreneurship and a desire to contribute to the growth of Argentina’s economy, I saw an opportunity to fill this gap and created Southmatea to introduce unique Yerba mate-based products to the world. My goal was not only to cater to the growing demand for healthy and natural products but It is known as well for its numerous health benefits, including providing an energy boost, improving mental focus, and aiding digestion.
The first step in my entrepreneurial journey was to conduct extensive market research to identify the untapped potential and the preferences of consumers in international markets. This research helped me understand the existing competition, consumer trends, and the potential for innovation in the Yerba mate industry.
To ensure the highest quality standards, we sourced the finest Yerba mate leaves from sustainable and ethical producers in Argentina. We partnered with local farmers who employed traditional cultivation methods, ensuring that our products would be authentic and reflect the true essence of Yerba mate.
Starting my own business has been a challenging yet rewarding endeavor. It has allowed me to combine my passion for entrepreneurship, my love for Argentina, and my commitment to promoting sustainable and healthy products. By creating innovative Yerba mate products, I hope to not only contribute to the growth of the Argentine economy but also introduce the world to the cultural richness and natural wonders of this remarkable country.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
It all started with the realization that Yerba mate, with its unique combination of antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, has immense potential to enhance people’s well-being. I wanted to introduce Yerba mate to a wider audience and offer high-quality products. Southmatea was born out of the belief that everyone should have access to top-notch Yerba mate and the knowledge to make the most of its health benefits.
I also host Mate Blending workshops and educational sessions to teach people how to harness the health benefits of Yerba mate. These workshops cover topics such as brewing techniques, pairing Yerba mate with plant-based foods, and incorporating it into a balanced lifestyle. Our goal is to empower individuals to make informed choices and optimize their well-being through Yerba mate and plant-based nutrition.
Furthermore, as a Yerba mate sommelier and plant-based nutrition expert, I envision myself hosting workshops and events globally, inspiring and empowering individuals to embrace a healthier lifestyle through Yerba mate and plant-based nutrition. I want to bridge the gap between cultures and create a community centered around wellness and the power of nature.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Starting at Zak the Baker first for a delicious brunch, walk around wynwwod enjoying street art, then head for a facial at Wairua, where they have clean beauty products and carries one of my favourite fragances ever made with yerba mate notes!. drinks and early dinner around brickell and a lovely walk around the harbour.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
