Meet Viveka and Johanna | Owners

We had the good fortune of connecting with Viveka and Johanna and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Viveka and Johanna, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
We started The Nordic Design Company because we felt that a lot of homes really lacked in style and function. In South Florida, many homes are older and we wanted to help people find ways to make them feel fresh and be more functional. Houses in South Florida can be expensive, but that does not necessarily mean that you get an updated house, so we saw an opportunity in this market.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We love starting a new home project. When we enter a property for the first time, we immediately start thinking about what we envision for the space and how it can better serve the people who live there. One of the biggest challenges is to be able to share this vision with our clients. We use tons of visuals and love presenting clients with mood boards so that they can understand our vision too. We have learned to trust our gut instincts and make sure we feel comfortable with the direction that a project is going so the final design is something that really communicates our style.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a great vacation day in Fort Lauderdale, we would probably start the day paddle boarding early in the morning and then grab a juice at Boulevard Kitchen + Juice Bar. We love the beaches and Park and Ocean is a great place for locals to hang out, get some food and listen to live music in a sandy and relaxed atmosphere. A fun part of the city is Flagler Village. To do a little shopping we could pop into The Wander Shop or Sanctuary Home and Gifts. The city offers great sunset cruises and afterwards we would love to have dinner near the beach at S3 and then perhaps end the night with drinks at Bar Rita.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We want to thank our clients for believing in our vision and trusting us with their homes. We love to support local vendors and Sanctuary Home and Gifts continues to be a great resource for us.
