We had the good fortune of connecting with Watson Papillon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Watson, what matters most to you?
Family. The family we grow up in shapes in many ways the type of person we become. When I was 3 years old my dad moved to the states with me and my older brothers and I got to see first hand him working and going hard to provide for us and always be there. From parent teacher conferences to sporting events you name it. My brothers always had my back no matter what, whether we had a lot or a little, we always had each other. That really instilled in me a strong family oriented foundation that I wouldn’t trade for anything. To the point it ain’t even gotta be blood, he always opened his doors to any of the kids in the neighborhood and was like a father figure to them that’s why I have this strong sense of community. If I have a dollar and you have nothing, then we both got 50 cents. Either way we’re in this together. And my whole family is like.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
You know that saying “Life imitates art” that’s what it is for me because my art is just an expression of life and where my heart is at the moment, and the way I convey that message is the fun part. it finds expression through writing poems/raps, acting, telling deeply sad stories and anecdotes from conversations and lives of others, even in my coaching. Although driven by emotion, my art is mainly thought provoking and invites you to sit and think about things a little further. I’m always offering an introspective point-of-view because it largely comes from this internal dialogue, it’s like this on going story. As God continues to mold me, you’ll get me from the season I’m in.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Bump that I’d be like bro, let’s go to where you came from, they got mountains over there? Or a cabin with no light pollution just stars? Lol but I’m simple man, for some good Haitian food we’d go to Caribbean kitchen or Chwa, Trinity church Tuesday night, catch various art exhibits all over really.. It’s a must they stop by my hair and clothing store on 106 st and 7th to get something nice for their lady. Other than that I’m pretty busy coaching my AAU team, spending time with my family and doing ministry or something in the community.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
You mean other than Jesus Christ? I have to shout out my wife Nadege.. words can’t even begin to express the love and gratitude I have for this woman. I don’t think there’s another person with a bigger heart, genuine and so much love and wisdom. I always say God knew the Big assignment I have on my life and as a reward he blessed me with her. Haha she’s truly amazing though.
