Meet Wendy Behar | Certified Addiction & Recovery Life Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Wendy Behar and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Wendy, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My journey into entrepreneurship unfolded during the pandemic with the release of my bestselling book, “#YourRules.Your Life.” As an experienced therapist specializing in addiction, working for an outpatient agency, I have dedicated my 20-year career to helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of recovery. My transformational program, the Happiness Recovery System , has been a lifeline for clients and their families in recovery, offering guidance in rebuilding relationships with themselves and others. Having embarked on a personal sobriety journey spanning more than 25 years, I’ve integrated evidence-based therapies with my own recovery experience to develop this simple holistic program. It’s amazing how my book changed the trajectory of my life and has given rise to a business dedicated to supporting one-on-one clients and group programs to create a healthier, happier, more authentic life.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My journey into entrepreneurship unfolded during the pandemic with the release of my bestselling book, “#YourRules.Your Life.” As an experienced therapist specializing in addiction, working for an outpatient agency, I have dedicated my 20-year career to helping individuals and families navigate the complexities of recovery. My transformational program, the Happiness Recovery System, has been a lifeline for clients. What should our readers know about your work?
I provide personalized support to meet each client’s needs. Recovery is about living a happy life, so I work with each client to provide a holistic approach that supports all aspects of daily living. Addressing addiction, including building stronger relationships with yourself and others, is an important aspect that is addressed with each client.
Through education and unpacking the complexities of codependency, communication skills, boundaries, and self-care practices are implemented. Clients are encouraged to contact me throughout the week for extra support between sessions.
What habits do you feel have helped you succeed?
As a therapist, certified addiction and recovery coach, and someone who continues to live a sober life, I believe it is important to “walk my talk”. The best way I can support others is when I am living a healthy, balanced, authentic life. I maintain regular practices like meditation, exercise, and prayer, and I am an active member in support groups. I continue to stay up-to-date with education and certifications as the world of addiction recovery and sobriety continues to evolve. As my business has grown, I am grateful to have a team supporting me to allow me to focus on the clients that I serve and continue my personal practices.
Throughout my career, I’ve learned numerous lessons. Trusting your intuition and surrounding yourself with positive, supportive individuals is crucial. As an entrepreneur, achieving balance among family, personal life, and profession presents a significant challenge. Prioritizing self-care has been key; my day begins with meditation, prayer, journaling, and exercise, enhancing my effectiveness as a clinician. Recognizing that one can’t give from an empty cup, I emphasize the importance of self-care and boundaries with my clients. Also, it is important to start your with a gratitude list, I believe the way you begin your day sets the tone for the remainder of the day.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my friends and family come to visit, I am excited to take them to my favorite spots in Delray Beach Florida that help me ground, and bring happiness and peace to my life. I am a big fan of yoga so I would take them to my local yoga studio. I also love the Morikami Museum- walking through the Japanese gardens brings a sense of calm with lush landscapes and calming waters that create a serene Zen atmosphere. Another one of my favorite spots is the beach; the soothing sound of the waves and the soft sand offer a natural and rejuvenating escape for mind, body and soul. A visit to the Wakodahatchee Wetlands is also a great place to visit featuring a boardwalk and open pond areas, providing an opportunity to observe over 150 species of birds and other wildlife. In the evening, we would explore Atlantic Avenue, a vibrant hub for shopping, dining, and music. Each location offers a unique experience, and a delightful blend of tranquility, nature, and cultural exploration.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my sober supports and the rooms of recovery for being the pillars of strength throughout my self-discovery journey. I am profoundly thankful for the support of my family, whose love and patience have been a constant source of motivation. To my friends, coaches, employees, and everyone else who has been a part of my journey, your presence and guidance have been invaluable. Your unwavering encouragement and wisdom have played a pivotal role in my success and the positive changes in my life, especially in my career. I am truly blessed to have such an incredible network and team of individuals who have contributed to my success, and I am excited to continue this journey with your continued support.
